What was the one thing you "wouldn't" buy again for your birds?

I bought these "light weight" plastic nut cage toys for my macaws----I mean, what was I thinking?

Anything from a grocery store (out of the pet section), and a few select items from major chain pet stores (i.e. food and some toys)... well actually theres some foods and toys I'd also not buy from local bird store...

Something more specifically? Those metal toys with a "metal boing". Or rather any toys that resemble this one...

And I've heard these are dangerous too...

I've found buying the wood and stringing my own toys often are the biggest hits.

Now, I was going to make something out of tp and paper towel tubes---other than stuffing them w/treats--I have no other ideas.

I guess for me... it would be one of those plush "huts"! My parrotlets won't even go near it!

Secondly, I would never buy anything from Petco or Petsmart or any chain store that sells animals... I am fortunate that here in NYC we have an excellent store that specializes in bird supplies that I can support... just my two cents!

ive found that if a person has any skill at all, they can make most of the popular toys for alot less cash, especialy the shreadable ones, i cant imagine, buying toys over and over, that only last a week. that must cost a fortune, but i guess some folks can afford to do that. not me. i get my supplies at home depot, and, with a little amagination, you can make better and bigger toys than you can buy.

as for something i'd never get again, would be be a mirror. that just makes them crazy. my mother had a budgie when i was a child, gave it a mirror "to keep it company" if you want your bird to have company, play with him, or get him a companion, not a mirror. birds arent stupid enough to think a mirror is anther bird.

Pretty much anything in a pet store is a waste of money for us.

Monica,

Any reason for avoiding this toy entirely?
