Thanks to everyone for your good wishes. My kitty is holding up ok, taking his pills. We've been giving him round-the-clock care. He just might go into remission, and while that's not as good as recovering completely, I can live with it.

That's great news that Wendy is coming here! I'm on her waiting list for a RFM (15th on the list, last I heard :eusa_booh )

this is an interesting thread for me from many perspectives. 5 or 6 years ago I was the first message board moderator on a major website dealing with a particular topic that gets a massive amount of traffic. Its not bird related, though. I bailed after a couple of years because the administrator wouldnt put a stop to certain strong personalites who came in and were trying to control everyone's conversation and beliefs. A lot of message boards become clickish, and dominated by the opinions of certain strong personalities, (if they are not already owned and controlled by the person who the site belongs to.) Sometimes it's hard to avoid, unless the administrator and moderators are good referees, or just don't let any individuals (or groups) dominate or control the dialogue & communication. This board is nicely managed, well designed and friendly to the entire avian community. I visit other avian forums periodically, and this is simply the best one going.

I think I am going to like it here....lol

First of Victoria, I am sorry to hear about your kitty and I hope the meds work. My 12 year old cat was recently diagnosed with kidney failure due to a previous surgery and I thought I'd loose him too. He's doing good and is on fluids twice a week. Keeping my fingers crossed for your kitty.

I also read at Macaw Talk on occasion but mostly ToozTalk since I have a Goffin's cockatoo. I've learned over the years to just keep my mouth shut because some battles aren't worth fighting for. I don't know those people from Jack, so why waste my time?

Yeah, read mytoos too and they are some real winners! Although I agree that the truth should be told about cockatoos, they take it too extremes and most positive posts are deleted anyway. Also, not ALL Toos end up with problems, just most of them. hehehe I have a plucker too and it can be frustrating but I don't condemn the species nor do I love her any less.

Esther

I am not one to make any comments about any board mentioned on ths thread as i do not know the people over there very well at all. I do tip my hats to them and respect what they have achived as pioneers for bird people... but I understand the dynamics of msg boards in all sorts of areas from webmasters, fishing and etc that clicks do emerge but for it all to work you have to have as someone said above that there needs to be some impartial refferee's to coordinate traffic if you will. Msg boards are a tricky format becuase you as an admin cant play politics too much but kinda have to sit back and let the market/site do what it does and when it gets lopsided and it out of balence then things need to change for the greater good of the site. I hope to continue to have the site grow becuase of this and hope you all become an integral part in this journey.

One word........UNBIASED! I feel you have to unbiased and treat every situation the exact same reguardless of who it involves....I believe that is why this board has been and will be successful....we have some good honest people here as Administrators and Moderators that live by this policy, along with the best members a site could have......its proven and it works......

Thanks "Many Feathers"... it feels good to know we are doing our job.....

All boards need to "find their feet". They stumble and fall a bit along the way before they become what they will eventually be. In the end, if you set out to HELP, then you must be willing to listen, empathize with and gently lead the way. Its easy to get misunderstood on any board. After all, since we can't see hand gestures and facial nuances, we make our impressions by the actual wording we use.

Sometimes that's the problem in a nutshell. We aren't careful about how we word things and sometimes the reader gets an entirely different message than the one we tried to convey. I think I'm often guilty of that. I do try to be courteous even when I disagree.

The three mods that currently monitor this board today are in my opinion the BEST ones that this forum has ever had. They KNOW that their job is to really keep things moving and on track. I know that they sometimes have to move posts from one area to another and occasionally have to intervene if topics get a bit heated.

However, this team is fair. Frankly, that's the hardest thing to be. We all have our favorites and its difficult not to show it. If we can simply respect each other enough to hear what we have to say and agree to sometimes disagree, we will be just fine. And, on the occasion when we can't remember that basic courtesy, a good mod will gently but firmly remind us.

The Birdboard will take its place among the best on the internet. It has legs. We are about to take the next step. I'm certainly glad I stuck around, for I often wanted to bail. Now, after 2 years of growing up, we can proudly hold our heads up and say "I'm a member of Birdboard". The Kevins have somehow managed to keep this site up and running and constantly improving. That in and of itself is an achievement in the internet world. Thank you very much.

That is unfortunate, that Sandy banned you, but you have a place equally here and you will not get banned for simply asking a question, and you will not be made a fool, or made to feel stupid.>>>>>>>There are many of us that do not post over there just simply because of that fact........PERIOD....
hERE YOU WILL MAKE LIFE LONG FRIENDS, and people do appreciate you for who you are, and dont forget we all care for each other, that is why we can call this a true family. :icon_smil .
