A thought.... A BirdBoard Do??

I know I'm new around here and this may not be appropriate given my "status", so forgive me if it's not. I am involved in another internet special interest group and we recently had a "Do" (get together) at a mutually convenient location... in this instance, it was in DC at Regan National. Do you guys think we could do something similar with BirdBoard members? From my standpoint, I'm a very frequent flyer with lots of miles and can go basically anywhere at minimal cost. For those who aren't FFs, there are lots and lots of low fare carriers covering most of the country (sorry Aussies and Brits...... I know it ain't cheap to fly to the US). Might anyone have any interest in planning something for late spring/early summer? BWI is a nice airport or maybe something in the middle of the country like St. Louis.. I know Southwest flies there? What do you guys think? From my point of view, the folks around here are the best and I'd LOVE to meet some of you. Whaddaya think?

We have thought about this plenty in the past however many of us are short on cash, or wouldn't be able to find anyone to care for our birds or just wouldn't be able to trust anyone. It's something that everyone would however enjoy, and there is a saying that has been going around that if someone wins the big lotto that they'll have to pay for everyone who can to go and visit them! LOL

I would LOVE to do this. (A lot of you guys are like family to me). But like Monica said, many of us are short on cash. However, if it was in St Louis, I know I'd be there. (Not too far away.) Cliff, would, of course, be there. But it's just hard to find a good good spot for everyone and at the same time for those people to leave their birds. But, like I said, I am all for this. Even if it was just maybe 5 or 6 of us, I'd be there because I would really like to meet a lot of you. It would have to be either a weekend or during the summer for me to be able to come there.

If there is any more talk of this, let me know please. I'm interested for sure.

Kevin

As previously stated, the idea has been thrown around quite a bit, and it is a great idea, however............ with 5 fids, 2 dogs, 2 cats, and a rat I would have such a hard time finding a sitter for the household. As Kevin stated, please keep me apprised; never know what will happen that I can get away.................

Local to Do's

How about setting up something for like a 4 or 5 state radius instead of the whole country. It would probably be easier plus more affordable for people in adjacent states to get together than to try to get the whole country together at one time. For instance we live in Ohio. Using Ohio as the center ( just for my benefit ). We could have Pa., Mi., Ky., In., Oh., and Wv. meet someplace in Ohio.
The other countries could do the same for their part of the world. At least this way some of us would get to meet face to face.

Hmmm well I think if we planned like 3-4 of them it might work... But the big issue isnt realy the airfare its more about the lodging and etc that will really rack up the costs...

Maybe somewhere on the west coast, some where in he middle, south east, and northeast... Then we have the aussies members growing in strength that might be able to throw one down there...

Great ideas, ya'll. Another thought is to post itineraries. That way, when someone is traveling outside of their area, they could potentially meet other members for drinks or dinner. For instance, I'm going to be in Vegas 2/7 - 2/11, Port Arthur, Tx 2/14-2/18 and Salt Lake (I think) 2/21-2/15... so if anyone is in any of these areas and would like to meet for a drink, I'd love it!!

That's kind of like we have already done at BRP2, when Lissa from Massachusetts said she would be in the San Diego area because her husband Andy (very nice guy btw) had business here and she came along. We made out a place and time to meet and have now become friends for life. It was truely a wonderful experience. The other time was at the Rancho Bernardo Bird MArt, some of us from the African Grey Owners group got together and I was able to meet Jenn and entourage and Navin with his wife there and we had a blast and everyone was just great.
So ... These meetings are a great idea and can indeed turn out to be something really special
