Favorite Quotes

Does anyone have a favorite quote or maybe a short poem they'd like to share? I find quotes very inspirational and love to hear the thoughts of others!

My current favorite is:

Why fear the dark?
How can we help but love it
when it is the darkness
that brings the stars to us?
What's more: who does not know
that it is on the darkest nights
that the stars acquire
their greatest splendor?

~Dom Helder Camara

Anyone else????? :icon_mrgr

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous ?
Actually, who are you not to be ?

You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world.
There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
You are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within you.
It's not just in some of us, it's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we're liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others

What i live my life by is:

Carpe Diem (Seize The Day)

My feelings: Life is just too short to sit around and worry about things. Have fun while you're still able to.

To The Virgins Make Much Of Time - Robert Herrick (A Carpe Diem Poem)

GATHER ye rosebuds while ye may,
Old time is still a-flying :
And this same flower that smiles to-day
To-morrow will be dying.

The glorious lamp of heaven, the sun,
The higher he's a-getting,
The sooner will his race be run,
And nearer he's to setting.

That age is best which is the first,
When youth and blood are warmer ;
But being spent, the worse, and worst
Times still succeed the former.

Then be not coy, but use your time,
And while ye may go marry :
For having lost but once your prime
You may for ever tarry

Kevin

Here are some more that I like...

Better to do something imperfectly than to do nothing flawlessly.
–Robert Schuller

Time passes unhindered. When we make mistakes, we cannot turn back the clock and try again. All we can do is use the present well.
–Dali Lama

"To believe your own thought, to believe that what is true for you in your private heart is true for all...that is genius...
A man should learn to detect and watch that gleam of light which flashes across his mind from within, more than the luster of the firmament of bards and sages.
Yet he dismisses without notice his thought, because it is his. In every work of genius we recognize our own rejected thoughts; they come back to us with a certain alienated majesty."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

"I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy permanent planet. The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time."
-Jack London

"You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.' You must do the thing you think you cannot do."
-Eleanor Roosevelt

"I love the man that can smile in trouble, that can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection. Tis the business of little minds to shrink, but he whose heart is firm and whose conscience approves his conduct, will pursue his principles unto death."
?

"The superior man thinks always of virtue; the common man thinks of comfort."
-Confucius

"Quarrel not at all. No one resolved to make the most of himself can spare time for personal contention."
?

"There are many who are living far below their possibilities because they are continually handing over their individualities to others. Do you want to be a power in the world? Then be yourself. Be true to the highest within your soul and then allow yourself to be governed by no customs or conventionalities or arbitrary man-made rules that are not founded on principle."
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

NO REGRETS Is my life motto, so I guess I am similar to Kevin. I have always lived my life so I would never have to look back and say "I wish I had done....." or "What if......?" My English lit days are long since gone, and I can't remember any quotes so I guess I'll have to be a DIYer and make one up:

I don’t regret the things I did
The times I took a chance
I don't regret the path I took
In life, love and romance.

I don’t regret the times I gave my heart
And still got burned.
For every heartbeat that I lost
Has long since been returned.

I may not always get it right
And often play the fool
But at least I had the guts to try
I guess that’s pretty cool.

I would regret chances missed
The things I didn’t do
Life is just too short to be afraid
I know that’s true.

Some say “Tread with caution”
Some say “Seize the Day”
I say “Seize the moment”
Don’t let it slip away

When time has passed and I look back
Upon the years gone by
I never want to ask “What if?”
Or ever wonder why……..

Now watch me regret posting this....I aint no Ralph Waldo Emerson!

Put us all to shame, why don't ya Tiki.

Mine is:
Live everyday as if it were your last.

and the one I always remind my husband of is:
Hell hath no fury like a woman scorn.

I can't write (poetry and stuff) to save my life and so rely on the genius of others for my inspiration.

My favorite quote comes from Groucho Marx: "Men are only as old as the Women they feel"

"Time is like a bubble in the sea of eternity. Before the bubble existed, the sea was there, and after the bubble pops, the sea will still remain."
-Hindu lesson (read it again, there are multiple meanings)
