How Many Bird Parents Are Ready For The New Harry Potter Movie & Book?

I am at work and I am watching this special behind the scenes of newest Harry Potter film that is coming out this weekend. Do we have any Potter Fans and how excited are we to see this movie and read the last book? My boyfriend won't admit it but he's as excited as I am. I am going to bypass the crowd this year and go the week after and take my nephew for his birthday and he and I are going to the Harry Potter Party that night as well at the book store so we can be there to buy the book at 12:01 a.m. Since the first movie came out, I've taken my nephew to see these movies. He doesn't want his mom to take him. He's now 15 and he has more fun with me than her cause I have read the books and we can discuss the book as we watch the movie. Sooooo, any potter fans?

MEEEEE!!! I pre-ordered the book as soon as I was able to. I think it was in March. I bought one for me and one for my mom because I don't want to wait for her to read it. I am going to hold out until the crowds slow, too, to see the movie. Last movie that came out I went early afternoon by myself because I didn't want to be disturbed. It was awesome.

ME TOO!!! I'm trying to finish re-reading Book 5 before the movie tomorrow, I still have a ways to go. I've re-read 1-4 in the last week as well. Then I will leisurely re-read through 6 in the next week and a half and then next Saturday will be here before we know it!

I'm also going to the adult HP convention Prophecy in Toronto in August too

I've enjoyed all the HP movies so far, but I still have some waiting to do for the latest installment....
Due to my severe food allergies, I can't even enter a movie theater,
so I have to wait till "Order of the Phoenix" comes out on DVD.

As for the books, I haven't read any of them yet.
(LOL Yeah, yeah, I know! **smacks meself on the wrist & waggles a finger at me nose**)
Between trying to get all my other books out of boxes & back onto bookshelves.....
and trying to write my own stories - I'm way behind on my reading.

LOL! As a matter of fact, I've still got 2 books from Anne McAffery's "Dragonriders of Pern" series around here somewhere that I haven't even had the chance to start yet...
and I'm pretty sure I've completely missed at least few of Piers Anthony's Xanth series novels.

Speaking of movies from SciFi/SciFan books, I'd heard for the last few years that different Hollywood bigwigs were going to do film versions of a couple of my favs:
The previously mentioned Anne McAffery's series...
and Edgar Rice Burroughs "A Princess of Mars".
Both projects have hit major snags since then.

A Pern movie script was done by Ron Moore (of Battlestar Galactica fame), but Warner Bros. decided the story would be better if it was more like "Buffy the Vampire Slayer".
Moore was a big fan of AM's original stories & was so disappointed in the script changes that he quit the project.
Copperheart Entertainment then bought the rights in 2006 and were going to do a movie, but it's been pushed to the backburner because of other projects...
and some fear that it would be seen by the general public as a cheap attempt to steal the dragonriding fire from the "Eragon" series.
That's odd to me because Anne's first Pern book, Dragonflight, came out in 1968....long before Eragon's 17 year old author, Christopher Paolini was even born.
((IMHO, there's quite a bit of Pern's "dragon rider lore" that's found it's way into Eragon.))

The plan for taking ERB's classic Barsoom series to the bigscreen has been plauged by problems too. Paramount was supposed to be doing, but dropped it in 2006 to do another Star Trek film.
Disney has made a bid for it, but the project is in limbo till they get all their newly acquired animation studios sorted out. The lastest news I've read is there's a possibility that Academy Award winning director Robert Zemeckis might be involved in a combination computer animated/live action version similar to "300". That's great news, but it's still all tentative... the final result is a very disappointing late release date of 2012.

Sorry, didn't mean to temporarily derail the thread.

I think there are more adults waiting to see this movie than kids! LOL I so want to go this weekend but I guess i can hold out a week! Shoot I might go Monday afternoon since I'll be off! I'm so excited! My boyfriend is too. He doesn't read but he's asked to sum up the books for him. when we got together, I only had books 1 & 2. 3,4,5 were out but they were not in my budget by any means. We were living pay check to paycheck, I was paying a divorce lawyer what I didn't pay in bills. So for my bday he bought books 3,4,5 for me and the first 2 movies on DVD, I had them on VHS....I just so happen had a week off for my bday and read all 3 books in that week. Needless to say the house work suffered a little bit! hahah

Totally agree with this!

I'll wait for the dvd, unfortunately the back doesn't allow me to sit through a movie.
The book will be read completely by the end of the day I get it!
