Goffin Or Ekkie?

How many own a Goffin? Are they as needy as an Umbrella or fun and comical like I read about. If you were going to pick up a baby bird tomorrow, would it be a Goffin or an Eclectus? Or even other?

I use to own 2 Goffins,2 Umbrella Cockatoos and a Mollucan Cockatoo. They were all rescues/rehomes I rehabbed them and rehomed them.
It was nice owning the Goffins they are very comical. The Mollucan was very needy and there were times I couldn't leave my home. The Umbrellas were okay as well.I wouldn't ever take in another Cockatoo the closest I am to one is a Cockatiel. Now I am owned by multiple birds.I'm partial to Eclectus.

They were just too demanding for me.I didn't have a problem with the Goffins though.I've had many different birds over the years and I had the most problems with the Cockatoos.Maybe because they were rehomed or rescued? I don't know. I just know that everyone has their preference.I know there are just too many of them being rehomed. The M2 I was her 3rd home and she was only 5 years old.The U2's the ages were unknown and they were
biters.I worked with all of them for about 2 years and then I rehomed them.If I had a santuary or something just maybe they would of stayed with me.
Don't get me wrong there are good and bad in every species and there are a lot of rehomed parrots out there. If you don't believe me look at my signature.
Mostly rehomed or rescued with the exception of a few.I think it's really sad.
People should educate themselves before getting an animal. If your thinking of an Eclectus they require a special diet different from other parrots.Sometime they end up with food allergies which cause toe tapping, wing flapping as well as plucking. The diet has to be just right.I know speaking from experience.

Check out All About Cockatoos - MyToos.com before buying a cockatoo. Goffins are as prone to plucking and other issues as the bigger 'toos, though they aren't as clingy. My mom had one when I was a teen and she was very easygoing, but after what I've learned from mytoos I would only take in a cockatoo as a rescue. I have a 6 month old umbrella cockatoo (got her before I knew about cockatoo issues and she's a rehome) and I've had to totally change my daily activities because of having her.

My ex-husband's mom has a pair of eclectus and they are great. Apparently they don't do well on pellets and need lots of fresh foods. I have a hard time doing the fresh food thing in variety and quantity enough so I really rely on pellets, so I could never have an eclectus.

Mercy, if anyone did go to that site, they'd think twice before getting a Cockatoo. Great sense of humor in the opening, or sarcastic sense of humor I should say...It's so sad....Thanx for the info

I'm very grateful to mytoos.com--I think that site prevented me from making an awful mistake. The Moluccan scream audio file is a great way to get the message across.

I still love cockatoos, but about the only one I'd consider in my home would be a Goffin. And that's a moot point, because pet-wise we're at capacity right now. (Although we do have three empty cages and . . . no. That way lies maddness!)

How cool! My Bobbie is 5 months old. He plays on his back, barks like the dog, and does the most wonderful things. He is not as needy as a Moluccan, and can entertain himself well...if I am not around. Over the last 2 months, he adjusted welll to my schedule, and only "demands" out at certain times. We try to be very consistent. I almost also got an electas, and although they are very beautiful, I thought of them more of a sitting bird with great talking abilities, and I wanted one that would be more playful and entertaining.

Bobbie also does the croughing ostrich cry, although that has gotten to be less and less. FYI-be careful of giving into this with a special treat, I spoiled Bobbie in two days. Now when he does that, I luv him for a minute and put him onthe floor to play with a toy...or if it is truly feeding time, I place him on his food dish.

I look forward to swapping stories with you asour babies grow up! Ü

Bobbie`

Bobbie is cute but sounds more mature then Korkie....It took her less than a day to destroy 2 toys..........She took the round ring like you put keys on, and got it off the bottom of her toy releasing all the beads........This will be fun finding toys for her that she can't destroy....lol
