Unhappy dove eggs eaten!!!! :(

well i have been watching a dove nest right next to my house. the nest was about 2feet off the ground with 2 eggs. out in the open i was kinda worried when we started to get all this rain. looks like i was right to be worried.. there has been a fox around our house and i think he got them...or a cat. but i checked them and one is missing (i looked on the ground for it thinking it might have fallen, didn't find anything) and the other is broken with a leg () in the nest. i think mummy got away though...

first 2 pics are of last thurs. then pics of today.

~Nate

That's unfortunate but it's life. It's nice to have a nest with baby birds close to your house that you can observe. Especially if you love nature. But to love nature means to accept things like this as normal.

I feel there's no need to hate foxes any more than someone should hate birds for eating lizards, bugs, etc. All creatures have their place in the food chain. As do we (and we abuse ours) so why judge. Every living thing eats something that was once alive.

Foxes are an introduced species here, who are ruining the abundance of beautiful and unique wildlife. I have much reason to hate them.

I'm sorry about the eggs... That's especially sad since there was a leg in the nest! :(
But, it's all part of the circle of life, I guess.
