The only experience I have with this is from when I was much younger. Friends raised 2 ducks they had received for Easter. The ducks were very friendly. They would follow everyone around, begging for food and attention like puppies. They were terribly messy, though. The food and poo in their backyard was a neverending battle for them. They finally gave up and sent the ducks to live on a farm where they would have a real pond, and plenty of room to roam.

We had ducks, we had indian runner ducks and another duck (not sure what she was, fat duck? lol). They're so cute! They do big poo's but if you hose them into the ground the grass grows back so green and thick, excellent fertilizer.
We made a duck pond out of a plastic sand pit case. dug it into the ground, they loved it. They're very cute. It was great just to watch them but when you would bring tomato (their favourites) they would race down the yard and you could hand feed them, i taught one to jump for their food. They also layed eggs which are excellent for baking cakes and stuff (bit rich to eat by itself). The only downside is they would quack loudly in the morning when they layed their egg and when they wanted to get fed but other than that they're awesome pets! I looked after 10 muscovy ducklings at one stage and they were so cute, they thought I was their mum and would follow me everywhere. So the younger you get them the better..if someone can wean it (i don't know if ducks wean? i guess they do?) they would probably be used to people then and maybe you could walk it on a harness.

Very messy. Especially with poo. I have a plastic owl on our dock to keep them off. I spent the end of last summer scraping poo off the dock because the old lady next door thought it was a good idea to feed and tame the wild ducks.

Our ducks weren't too messy..we only had 2 at a time (excluding the 10 ducklings) and it only took you about 10 mins to hose the poo's into the ground. The didn't scratch like chickens do (or scrub turkeys that vacate yard now..grr). Our's were free range in our yard (only suburban yard) so they had that all day and slept under a bushy low tree...you have to search them for ticks though (lots of ticks in australia). The first time they saw rain was the funniest thing! They stood in the middle of the yard and tilted their head to look straight up at the sky to see where it was coming from haha so cute! They would do that when they heard a plane too.

I don't have any
3 of our ducks were Indian runner ducks. They couldnt fly though. Look up indian runner ducks in google images and that's what they are. We had one white one, one dark brown and white one and one light brown with a bit of white one. Napoleon, Josephine and daggy..I don't know what out other duck was, she was fat and slow compared to them, she was called Jezzabell.
