Thumbs down This is pretty sad.

The breeder which I got 2 of my 'tiels from rang me yesterday, we keep in contact and talk a lot..she was telling me about this lady who she has been friends with for awhile who is going blind, and she was saying the ladies house is like a zoo. Anyway, she asked if I wanted to go to this ladies house with her, and I said sure - I went to the breeders house we left her place and got to this place and it was weird I got a shudder when we pulled up there, we got out of the car and knocked on the door, she opens the door and there's 4 dogs right there in front of me, all of them smelt of urine and crap, along with the house. The dogs looked so unhealthy it wasn't funny, broke my heart to see this.. then we went to the backyard where there was this tiny little shed, and there were boxes and 2 cages in there, one of the cages (it was the size of a guinea pigs cage) had more then 13 budgies in it, the water was disgusting looked like as if the lady only changed it once a month the food was just about empty and I asked her if she gives them food daily and she said "the food usually lasts them around 7-10 days" and I looked at the other lady (breeder) and she rolled her eyes. In another cage, this one was a budgie cage, had 5 tiels in it, one of them sitting on the bottom of the cage looking like it was gonna die anytime soon, another one had no crest, and was weezing, could hardly breathe, and it was sitting there as if it were saying 'get me out of here ' I was nearly in tears, the other 'tiels looked okay (who knows they could be sick too). Then the boxes.. these boxes (they weren't all that big) had 3 rabbits in each box, they are them dwarf rabbits, and I counted up 19 rabbits all together, they were all cramped up together had bits of grass in there, that's it and a bowl of water which was green (wtf? ) oh but that's not it.. she had chooks too, these chooks were in a corner in the back yard, 9 of them, one was dead, and the lady said she was going to be getting rid of it that day. Myself and the breeder couldn't stand to stay there any longer, we asked her if she wanted to keep the tiels, and she replied with 'they are fine' and the lady (breeder) told her that they don't look fine at all, so they started chatting about the tiels, I was looking around and the dogs were jumping on me and I felt so bad, I just wanted to take all of them and go. The lady eventually said that we can take 1 of the tiels, so we got the one that was sitting on the bottom of the cage, and we left.

We got back to the tiels breeders place, and checked this tiel out, and rang the vet and they said to bring it in, so we did and they said this tiel is awfully sick and needs good care and loving. We told them about the other pets we had seen, and the vet said to go back there and talk to her, tell her that these pets are going to die if she doesn't give them away or start taking care of them, but she obviously can't take care of them if she's going blind (she's due to go to hospital for an operation). So the tiel breeder went back there and they had a long good chat, but this lady refuses to get rid of these pets she has, I'm not sure what to do now, we've tried but it's failed. She cannot look after them, and she can't go to hospital and just leave them at home, otherwise they'll be sure to all die which I don't want to see.

Can you report her to the RSPCA or something?? I don't know...I hate it when people get selfish and think because they have a roof over their pets heads that they couldn't possibly be happier and healthier somewhere else. Argh it makes me so mad! Where about's in Australia are you? Anywhere near me cos I feel like I want to break into her shed when she's gone and replace her birds with toys..like she'll know or care anyway. Grr..my grandad got a galah from a neighbour who couldnt be bothered feeding her anymore so just left her. My grandad used to slide food between the fence for her and eventually they gave her to him...maybe if you can volunteer to feed them while she is gone, she might realise they will be better off with someone else?? I don't know..argh anger!

You need to contact the authorities. Animal regulations, ASPCA, the police, ask your vet who to contact, or ask the police. This is a case of animal cruelty. I don't know the laws in Australia, but this has to be addressed, and soon. This lady sounds like a horder. And if she is going into surgery there will be no one to look after her animals. As if they are being looked after now.

Please contact someone.....get those poor babies out of there.

Keep us updated.

Report her. Call the RSPCA and get them to check it out. There was a case just like this on "RSPCA rescue." Hording is actually a kind of mental disease- the people CANNOT see that the animals are suffering. Budgies can't go for 7-10 days without a food change! That's ridiculous! Yes wherabouts does she live? Not exact address, obviously, but what state and town? Regardless of her disability, these animals should not be kept like that. Please do all you can to help them!

I agree with the above posts. Those birds need to be removed from that situation asap. Animal cruelty is animal cruelty regardless of ANY factor (and that includes the good or bad intention of the owner).

Please call the RSPCA, they really need to be taken away. That's pretty much the only thing you can do in australia...if she is in SE queensland then maybe tell her about the Parrot Rescue Centre and see if she will give them up to them...maybe call them and they might be able to help you out with what to do?

Unhappy

I would offer to go over and there and feed them myself, but it's too far out for me and I can't get there. I'm in NSW, not sure what this ladies address is all I seen when we were driving down the road was robert street, and I didn't even look at the letterbox to see what the number is.

The tiel breeder has contacted the RSPCA, now I'm waiting to hear back on what is going to happen. The tiel we got from there that was very sick, died last night. Sorry if this makes not much sense I have not slept for 24 hours.
