My mother divorced my dad when I was 5 yrs old. She was working 2 part time jobs, raising 3 kids and my dad was the only one of the fathers (my brother & my sister both different dads from me) who paid his child support. And then it was only $150 a month! Mom had to get assistance to help feed us. My father was against it but mom didn't have a choice. When she was finally able to work 1 full time job and a part time job, we were ok.
She married my step dad 20 years ago, and today they have a successful business and mom has only hired single parents or low income employess that will work for their pay checks. She needed a helping hand and no one was available but she didn't complain, she got by. One lady, Ms. Ruby, has worked for my mom for 13 years now. Mom gives her a great Christmas bonus every year, and gives her 2 kids things for their bday's and christmas, and if Ms. Ruby needs an advance in pay, Mom will help her out. She gets a paid vacation every year & mom helps her out when one of the kids is out sick. Because if you don't work, you don't get paid. My mom may not be the best person to me, but I am proud of her for helping people around her. She doesn't give it to them, she gives them the chance to work. Be it working in their stores, helping her clean her huge yard, help with the maintance of her water gardens, cleaning her huge house, helping with their live stock, what ever it may be, these people are grateful for my parents giving them a chance to work and earn a pay check. KDK241 that was sweet of you. There have been times when people have come into the store i work in (gas station) and they wouldn't have enough money to wet their gas tank. I have helped a couple of people out that I thought they REALLY needed it and put $5 or $10 in their tanks for them. They tried to pay me back as well and I told them no, to take that and help the next person in need. It's called PAY IT FORWARD....

I've had people do that for me before. My car ran out of gas (gauge was stuck on 1/2 a tank and I didn't know) and I was at Target. I asked a guy if he had any change so I could use the payphone and he gave me $5 for gas. I cried. I didn't even know who I was going to call since everyone was out of town that weekend.
