i don't recall implying that if you were referring to my post. it was not my intention to accuse anyone of being careless.

however, we do have people on this board that come with little to no experience. while these photos are cute, i also think it's important to point out that there inherent dangers to dogs and cats interacting with birds, especially for new bird owners who might feel it's okay to let a cat play with a budgie without supervision. too many birds die from those kind of interactions to not point it out. i'm sure you understand my motivation

I have a Maine Coon cat who tries to be best friends with my ekkie. But, maine coons are "grounded" as a breed. He doesn't chase flies, or birds and what not. . . but let a rodent near him and that's the end of that! Although I allow interactions with my ekkie with supervision(the Maine Coon curiously pawed her ONCE, and got a bloody paw from it, from then on he was only friendly) I would never allow the cat around a bird any smaller than my ekkie even with supervision. I trust my kitty, but just like you said, accidents can happen.

Honestly, I'm more worried about the new yorkie we've got. . . he may weigh 4 pounds, but he's got more hunting instinct than any of my other pets COMBINED!!!!

Thanks for posting Red, it sure is precious. They are obviously being supervised as someone is taking pictures, so that's a good thing.

It would just take one scratch, or bite and the bird would be in serious trouble.

I agree with Bee, while the pictures are cute, please don't try this at home. It just takes one time.

Those are adorable pictures! I feel that you greatly decrease the chances of something bad happening if you introduce the bird to the cat while it's still a kitten, like in the photos. Of course, the risk is always there, but I would feel much better getting a kitten rather than a cat, just for the reason that a kitten would get used to the bird better.

This was posted on another forum and caused a lot of problems
among the members.Though some may say it is cute.I think for the member or
members that loss their beloved birds to a cat or kitten there's nothing cute about this.I was very close to someone who this very thing happened to and took it really hard after seeing this same posting.Yes there are a lot of people
new to birds and are unaware of all the dangers. We can't assume that they know all the hazards to birds out there.

This is very cute, thank you for sharing.

Obviously this interaction is dangerous and requires supervision, I feel that most people (even people that aren't that familiar with birds) know that cats can and do eat birds in the wild.

I came home to a pile of feathers on my bedroom floor, and found the ferret out of her cage snoozing on the couch, looking very content. Worst day of my life. I found Charlie's little rainbow body tangled in a toy puppet's strings, head dangling and neck featherless and bare. I cry everytime I remember that day, and am crying now gah.
I know how it feels for a pet to kill a bird. I still think these pics are very cute, but I'm sure anyone who reads this whole thread will get the idea about how dangerous these interactions are. I'm sure red was just wanted to post an amazing interaction between two unlikely, and quite adorable friends.

While I think we can all agree that those images evoke an 'awww' cutness response, we as bird owners also realize the danger of those images. That said, its kind of up to the mods to sit back and figure out 'well we realize that lots of the regulars around here are responsible, well taught, educated birdkeepers, but we also have newbies and lurkers that may not know the danger behind this.' so what to do? It honestly is kind of a catch 22- people on this board realize how cute, and unsafe, this can be, but for every member on here, there is another person out there who may be reading over someones shoulder and not realize the potential danger in this situation. Which is why mods have to put in a sort of disclaimer for this situation. Not because we don't think the posters of this board are uneducated, but because of all the lurkers and n00bs that may not know better.

Very well said I must agree, all it takes is one freind, one relative, one classmate to look at the picture and say "that'd be cute to see" and there goes a innocnet budgie, cockatiel or any other birds life. Pictures are cute but I feel should remain within the eyes of the educated bird owners, not the new founders.

cute though.

I thought was to do was obvious 10 posts ago. Stop flaming, stop being overly obnoxious with over-kill posts, allow a mod to post ONCE about the inherent dangers of the post in a consise non-confrontal day and then leave well enough alone.

Flaming, cyper-predators, and cyber-bulling aren't jokes. A child in my neighborhood commited suicide due to provocation by cyber bulling and his depression.

Please be kind to one another, and of course, post the neccicary cautionary post. But don't flame the poor person who thought it was cute and ALSO qulified the cuteness in the INITAL post.

That, in my opinion, is what should be done.
