My Drive To Atlanta Ga....omg!

Well as you guys know, it’s never a boring moment with my roommate and I! I have a story to share with you! You’re going to love it! You will LAUGH! I can laugh now but while it was happening, I was kind of on the scared side!

This past Saturday, Liz (roomie) went to the Atlanta to pick her honey (James) up. He was coming home from Iraq for two weeks. She gets up there fine. No problems. I’m at my part time job working this day. About 12:30 or so she calls me crying and upset. James wasn’t on that plane. She waited, clapping for all the soldiers who were coming in, but her soldier wasn’t there.

She found the right person to ask, “Where is he.” He wasn’t due til the next day. She is upset, and has NO idea what to do. Atlanta is 2-3 hrs away depending on traffic. She calls her parents and her dad suggested for her to get a room. Liz didn’t have the $ to drive back home that night and back to ATL the next day much less to spend the night. Her father told her to get a room, charge it and he’ll pay her back. So she got a room at the Marriott.

She calls me asking if I want to come up, spend the night and bring her stuff to her. Even though her father told her to go out and buy everything she needed such as make up, bath stuff, hair drier, straitening iron, and anything else she needed for the night and he would pay her back. I said sure.

So after work, I call her, pack her bag of everything she requested. Packed me a suit of clothes and changed into something nice and filled my car up and all that good stuff. Got the babies fed, so off I go to Atlanta.

Let me just say this, I DON’T DRIVE IN ATLANTA. I DON’T KNOW WHERE ANYTHING IS! THERE ARE TOO MANY PEOPLE DRIVING TOO FAST FOR ME. I do the whole MapQuest thing. My friends don’t rely on that dang thing. Not only did I get lost, I GOT LOST TWICE!

My first stop at a gas station, I was so out of my element it wasn’t even funny. I asked the cashier for directions. I had a hard time understanding him through the BULLET PROOF GLASS and his accent being so thick! But I wrote down every thing he said! OMG! This dude had me going into the center hood of CRACKVILLE GANGSTA LAND! My little car done a U-ie in the middle of a 4-way stop hoping to find a COP! Nope didn’t see one! I made it back to the interstate and went south, the way I came!

I never saw the first sign to direct me to 85! It was all 285 and there is NO WAY MY LOST BUTT WAS GOING TO GET ON SPHAGETTIE JUNCTION! So I am now traveling south, and I pass the air port AGAIN! I call her again, ‘WHERE THE HECK ARE YOU!” And about that time I see my exit! I cross three lanes, almost took out another car and still NO cop to pull me over!!!!!!!!!

Now, I’m on my road to the Marriot. SO I THINK! I travel about 10 miles away from the airport when I should be NEAR it! I see another gas station with easy access so I pull in. I asked a customer who was coming out, “Can you please help me?” She gave me great directions to my destination. I finally got there. I called everyone I needed to call to let them know I was there in one piece even after getting lost TWICE!

Finally, I made it there to the Marriott! Well I’m talking to my ex on the phone, I’m waiting behind this line of cars and NO ONE is moving. This place has Valet parking and my country bumpkin self isn’t use to this fancy stuff! A guy taps on my window and scares me half too death! I’m in the wrong line! I was behind the TAXI CABS! Gee, sorry, I’m STOOOPID really! I parked my own car. $6.00 for parking over $25 for valet worked better for my pocket book!

I finally got to the room after walking 300 blocks from the parking lot, ok, well maybe 20 blocks! Got sick on the way to the room from the lime green, yellow, and red carpeting in the hall ways!

OH THERE IS MORE! Don’t stop reading just yet!

Well I wake her up and we freshen up and she calls Valet to pull her car around. We walk down stairs and all, and being who we are, we are looking at some strange people and LAUGHING! ! ! ! !

We asked the valet guy for directions to Long Horns. We find it w/o a problem. He just failed to tell us that this Long Horns was in the “Crack-prostitute-if you’re not from here it will scare the crap out of you” part of town.

Liz and I are sitting there at the table talking, and cutting up with waitress who was getting a kick out of the two poor white chicks lost in Atlanta stories. While we are eating and enjoying our dinner, this chick comes walking thru the restaurant realllllly fast with a cop fast on her heels. I start to look at the clientele there at the bar and I was noticing that clientele there was dressed a little past sleazy! Things were just too different. Liz and I were eating fast to get the hell out of there!

We are going back to the hotel room now. We pull up to valet and they have you park behind a line. We are next to be attended to when all of a sudden this Montero Sport rushes by us and TRIES to squeeze in. Liz already ill and tired and mad got hotter. She was pushing her Honda up a little more with them, blowing her horn at them, cussing at them, yelling and all (windows are UP) and I’m sitting there laughing, it was funny! She made them BACK UP! The valet guys are standing there laughing us, and one rushes over opening the door for her still laughing. She said, “I’m sorry, but that fool was trying to cut me off and that’s just RUDE!”

But yes, James did make it home safely! WOOHOOO It was an adventure! ! ! One I don’t want to repeat EVER!

So, how was UR weekend?

Im right there with you, I HATE driving in Atlanta, nobody there knows how to drive, they would rather knock you in the median or in a ditch than let you over when you need to be, and if you dont go 90 miles an hour chances are you will get run over. i saw a cat crossing the 8 lanes of 285 once, and I just knew it was going to become a small speed bump, but can you believe he made it?
And spaghetti junction, I wouldnt get on that thing if somebody paid me to, well maybe for $1 million but thats about it.
I went up there with my sister back in January for a training thing she had to do for her job and man oh man I tell ya, we sat in front of the dang mall where we were for about 1 1/2 hours and only moved about 4 car lengths, then I thought...oohh cut through the mall, man that cut about 4 hours off our 2 mile trip back to the hotel LOL
Glad you got there and back safely, its a miracle when folks that dont live there get out safely. And I had to laugh, it was too funny. hehee

Oh and thanks to you, I want a Turquoise Ring neck now LOL Its my all time favorite color and to have a bird all that color, oh man that would be the life lol

You two kill me!
I hope you plan on bringing some of that adventure up here to NH in the fall! What a riot!

Well, I'm glad Officer James made it home safe and sound... he's done more than enough for all of us to deserve at least that, bless him!

And I'm also glad you two crazy ladies made it in and out of Atlanta all right... POOR ATLANTA... probably never be the same!

There is no way I would drive to Atlanta. Nope, not a chance. Hubby loves it, we were traveling through Atlanta one morning headed to pick up a racecar from Tennesse, well it was flooding, we are in a suv pulling a trailer, and it is flooding. OMG!!!! I was so scared, looked over and hubby was going 100.............WITH THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC!!!!!!!!!!! I told him "Slow down we are gonna wreck", he says to me...."If I slow down we are gonna get run over". Boy was I ever glad to get back home, because not to mention, we had to come back through Atlanta to get home. I hate Atlanta and never ever will I drive through that aweful place.

You really need to keep a diary to be published at a later date. These stories are to good to be forgotten. I can only imagine the stories you will tell about travel to New Hampshire and the New England experience.

I want little Scarlet.
