YAY Enrolled in a course today finally!

I haven't really told any of ya this but I have been looking into doing an animal course and found one by correspondence which looked good. I called up and found out the info. I had to get my certificate passed by the principal because it was a self designed course and got the all clear. I am doing a self designed certificate in Applied Animal Studies. The modules include:

Ornithology (of course)
Vertebrate Zoology
Animal Health Care
Wildlife Management
Animal Behaviour
Marine Studies I

I get a confirmation email tomorrow and get the course materials in the next 28 days (the receptionist said 14 days most likely).

Something that has come at the same time is my boss has quit and the practice manager can't afford to keep me on so my last day will be Wednesday 9th July unless he finds a sonographer (which I don't think will happen). I'm not really phased though because I was planning on leaving in a few months. Also with this course will have to go part time anyway so will probably look for work at vet clinics or wildlife parks even if it's just reception. And when I'm not studying I'll see if I can do work experience or volunteering at zoo's or aviaries or the parrot rescue centre.

Ok so you're pretty much up to date with me know so yeah..oh and the fids are great lol.

Woohoo, congratulations! Is there a website where someone can look at the course you've enrolled in?

yeah its ACS Distance Education: Correspondence Courses in Horticulture, Psychology, Business, IT, Agriculture and more but my course isn't in there really cos I just picked the modules myself. The animal behaviour and animal health care is under pet care in the courses and the rest are in environmental then if you got to the certificate in horticulture (nature park management) the other modules are in there. After I finish this and I want to keep studying I might do that one because I would have completed 4 out of the 6 modules in the certificate.

Omg congratulations hun!

I am doing an Animal Care course by correspondence at the moment, it goes for 18 months so I still have another 13+ months until I finish but I get to do the work experience (in a couple of months about 6-7 I think) and I gotta do first aid PLUS reception duties which I am scared crap less about doing because I'm not good with them sort of things. First Aid has had be worried too, I am scared that I will not pass, but I was told that they help you if you have any troubles they will help you so that you do pass! So yes, that's enough about that LOL, good luck with it, you'll love it, IT'S SO EASY TOO! I get a fair few assignments (I only just started in May though so I'm only on the first section and first book - there's tons of books though )

I do mine through Cengage Education and it only took them 4 days to send me out all the information and first book plus whatever else you get. I'd recommend it to ANYONE who wants to become a vet or work with Animals. I'm planning on getting a job as either a vet or vet assistant/nurse, and for my work experience I'm gonna work at a Vet, I was gonna choose RSPCA but I live an hour from the closest one and I don't drive and there's no buses or trains to get there which is a bummer since I'd love to do it there, but that's how things go, still happy enough to do it at the Vet.

Yeah I get 5 years to do it in, its a 600hr course lol. I'm a bit nervous about the wildlife management part cos its a problem based learning course but ill get through it. Thanks for the support! I'm a medical receptionist now so reception doesnt bother me but I am so excited about the other stuff! I can't wait. I go to wooli next friday to see my mum for a bit before I find a new job but YAY!

Good luck with the the coursework. It is great you are studying an area you love. Work is important but it takes up a third of our lives so if we can find a way to combine it with something we like it makes life so much better. Congratulations on getting accepted in this program.
