The Girls Arrive!

Elwood Blue (Laurie) and Wildirish (Tammy) made the 11 hour drive from N. Carolina to Maryland last night on a quest. Laurie is meeting her darling BG macaw (the one that grew up in a petstore here in Maryland) and Tammy is picking up 2 macaws in Philly. They got here exhausted, about 8 pm. We had dinner and talked a little before they simply crashed. I think the whole house was asleep by 10:30

I got up about 6 am to find both of them awake! Heck, they got up before MY birds (lol). I've gotta tell ya, they are both just terrific. Laurie is smart and good natured and Tammy is fun and energetic. She is truly a cockatoo! Both are cuties (you knew that already) and I only wish I could have them as neighbors. Eleven hours is TOOOOOO far! Poor Laurie had to travel 7 hours the day before to get to N. Carolina!

I can't tell you how truly kind and generous Laurie has been. It takes a lot of trust and love to buy a bird long distance on the sole advice of a crazy old bird lady you've never even met. Still, that's exactly what she did AND made the long trip up north to bring her home, safe and sound. I am really touched by her kindness.

Tammy is adopting 2 big macaws (BG and Harley) from a young pregnant lady who is moving to Canada within the year and simply can't take them. If the BG isn't too aggressive, I think she plans on homing her with a dear friend. The Harley will become one of her own birds. Both are reported to be quite young ( under 3) and come with big cages. I keep telling everyone, don't buy a bird until you check around. There are SO many looking for new homes. Since I'm "full up" I get fewer folks begging me to take their pets, but it still happens. Tammy can't seem to stop folks from calling her (lol).

I didn't get any pictures last night, for everyone was simply road weary. However, I'll get photos this afternoon when they return from Philly with the other two macaws. Its fun to meet other members.

That's excellent! I hope you guys enjoy each other.. I know you will!! The weather in the NC mountains hasn't been the best the past few days. Ya'll smooch the new fids for me and return home safely!!

I'm glad everyone arrived safely. I wish I would've known they were coming to Philly, I would've tried to meet with them somewhere along the way. Oh well, next time.

Just for the record, the girl in pink is Tammy (Wildirish) and the girl with the white tee shirt is Laurie (Elwood Blue). Barb (Kensbuns) has a gray sweater on and Teresa (TeresaB) is the tall blonde on the end. In the second group shot, I'm wearing the peacock blue sweatshirt and Barb is taking the photo.

Laurie is from northern Florida.
