Feet! I hate feet and don't want anyone's near me or touching me. I will scream and jump up. Unfortunately my sisters know this and antagonize me with it all the time. They do it in public places to embarrass me. My mom was in the hospital last fall for surgery. About 20 family members were there in the waiting room along with many other people. My little sister told my older sister, "watch this". I'm sitting there minding my own business. I felt someone tapping my hand. I turned to see who it was and it was my little sister's bare foot! I screamed and jumped out of my seat. Talk about embarrassed!
I hate glasses of milk sitting around. Gross. I love milk and chug it but if it sits there, too hard to explain. Just gross. My fear...I don't really have any. I guess I could say living through a nuclear war. 9/11 scared the hell out of me. Then that crap with Korea after that, that scared the sh*# out of me. |

Hmm, I'm not sure I have any "odd" phobias or quirks. Mine seem somewhat common.
I have a fear of heights, but only when I'm not protected by something. I have a hard time with ladders and see-saws. I can do them, but I'm just always so nervous that I'm going to fall. But I went up to the top of the Empire State builidng several times and immensely enjoyed the view, even hanging on the fence so I could get a better look (my dad hated that... he's got a true fear of hights and couldn't go near the wall). Ferris wheels I have no problem with, either, though I'm sure I'd freak out if somehow the bar came open. Walking up to the edge of a cliff where there's no fence or barrier, though, needs to be done on all fours. I'm also easily scared by movies, though I enjoy seeing horror flicks. I couldn't sleep for a week after seeing the Ring. I saw it when I was still in college but home on vacation, and my first night back to campus I was nice and relaxed and had forgotten about the movie, until my eyes snapped open in bed when I realized it was only a half-hour away from being a full week after I had seen it. If you've seen the Ring, you'll understand why I spent that next half-hour with the covers pulled up over my head with just my eyes uncovered, staring at the blank television set in my dorm room, which happened to be only a few feet from my bed. Random strands of hair freaked me out for a while after seeing the Grudge (god, I hated that movie). And I STILL get freaked out every once and a while when seeing two red points of light next to each other, thanks to the Mothman Prophesies (the absolute best thriller move I've ever seen, and the only one I've willingly watched more than once). As far as pet peeves, one has to be people who won't try new foods. I have a personal rule that I'll try anything as long as somebody else eats it first and I know I'm not allergic to it. Which is odd, considering I have a boyfriend who refuses to eat soup and gets dry heaves if he accidentally eats too much carrot (yet will go out of his way to shovel raw tuna down his throat in the form of sushi). Another pet peeve is people who are so convinced in their own superiority that they can't stop and think that they might be wrong. Personally, I try to understand every point of view before I make a decision. This goes for cultures, too. I'm fascinated by other cultures, particularly ancient ones or present-day ones from third-world countries where technology isn't nearly as widespread, and I hate people who are so American-centric they can't appreciate diversity. I once overheard a co-worker talking to someone about the movie Last Samauri, and he made the comment that he didn't understand "that whole other-cultures thing." He didn't want to see the movie because it was set in historical Japan rather than present-day America. I never liked the guy after that. He just made me nervous.

I hate shoes too, I try to get away at work with slip on sandals, lately they have been on a safety kick and are trying to force everyone to wear closed in shoes....yuck. I have been wearing steel cap boots since I refuse to spend my own money on shoes and that is what the company provides us for free. I live barefoot whevever possible or flipflops to go shopping. Or open toed evenign shoes for special occasions, but honestly I would rather be barefoot!

Yes, I know I'm weird....here they are....
*Latex gloves (probably from all the time spent hospitalized as a young'un) *Dirty bathrooms (I refuse to sit on any toilet seat or touch anything in a bathroom with my hands if it's not my bathroom). *Wet socks (it just completely grosses me out and I can't function until I get a dry pair of socks on). *Being bitten by bugs in my sleep (I check all my blankets and such for bugs before I go to sleep every night). *The song "In the Air Tonight" by Phil Collins (had reoccuring nightmares as a child and that song would always play during the nightmare) *People or things touching my spine (again, thanks to a horrific nightmare). That's all that I can think of....for now! :icon_mrgr Last edited by CACPioneer; 03-30-2005 at 11:41 PM. |

LOL...this is a great thread Steven....you and your crumbs!!!!
I can identify with many of you people...WOW....I KNOW I am OCD... My dots.....................probably drive Peregrine Harlequin crazy......lol First of all I cannot believe there is someone else out there besides me who has seen "Trilogy of Terrors" ..........YIKES! When that chick broke the chain off that lil' dude it was ON! anyways.....I wash my hands like a million times a day and when I go "out" to eat (which I'm not too fond of due to germs) I go to the bathroom first to wash my hands making sure I pump out some paper towels b4 I wash them so I don't have to touch the dispenser handle afterwards....then I kindly use them to ALWAYS open the door (if they just have the blower thing I use my shirt...pisses me off...lol).....I will then touch NOTHING in the place without using a napkin and carry around my own bottle of Purell to again disinfect my hands if I accidentally happen to touch anything......I have no clue why I am so anal....maybe it was my Mom always saying "don't touch ANYTHING!" lol that made me the way I am....My phobia is definately GERMS....they disgust me and so do people with bad hygiene, not washing their hands after using the restroom....YUCK!!! I have driven all the way home b4 from work just so I could use my own bathroom...I know I'm nuts but its true.... the people at work are constantly making fun of me cause if someone uses my phone or touches anything of mine I pull out the Clorox bleach spray and DISINFECT!!!!!! I can also relate to the Milk thing....yes...I like milk, but I pour it and drink it right then, and NOONE drinks out of it or takes a bite of my cereal...Gross!!!! I know this may be kinda against my "germ" phobia but I am somewhat like Jodi on the shoe thing....in the summer if I am outside I hardly ever wear shoes (unless I am in a public place...GROSS..)....I have like 1" thick pads (sarcasm) on the bottom of my feet and can walk over just about anything....about a week ago it was warm out and I went for about a mile walk through the woods with no shoes on....I know......I live on the EDGE!!!!!...lol..... people chewing on wood popsicle sticks and running the steel fork through their teeth bugs me out as does wiping those brown paper towels that are in most public bathrooms on my mouth.... I'm not afraid of roaches but they totally disgust me... and if yah open it.....CLOSE IT!!!!!!! that's all for now, if I think of anything else and you people aren't sick of my rant I will post more later....... P.S. That song from Sesame Street (which one of these things is not like the other...which one of these things just isn't the same) should probably be my theme song....DARE TO BE DIFFERENT!!!! OMG!!! I can relate to alot of the phobias and the quirks.
Nancy, obviously me and getting lost in a large city don't mix!!! The fear of getting trapped on the Washington Beltway!! Can't stand shoes. While hubby wears them constantly. Men leaving toilet seats up and not flushing toilets. MOLD!!!! Can't stand the stuff, drives me buggy! John too funny!!!! Steven, I knew about the crumbs, but the meatloaf thing is pretty funny!!!!LOL!!!
