Peregrine Harlequin, I for one agree with you on most of what you said and I think too that while i'm glad she's finally been allowed to die that they could've expedited her passing by giving her some type of lethal injection.
May she rest in peace, FINALLY.

I think that dying is sad but living the way she did for 15 years is even sadder.

I agree with you totally. i had my pet dog put down because he no longer had use of his body. his mind was still active, but he had too many other problems with old age. It broke my heart literally, but I could not just let him die or starve him to death. I had a vet come and do quickly and quietly and I was with him all the way. Crying my eyes out, but with him. He could not walk anymore, I had to pick him up and carry him to the toilet or to his food and water, that is not a life.

I, personally, am appalled that this made it to the President; do I want the government on my death bed? Absolutely not!
The media has had their fun in this entire case; they show what they want to show.
The footage of Terry was from 2001 - the judge ordered that no new footage of Terry could be shown; was she brain dead? According to doctors, she was.
My belief is that God called her home, regardless of the circumstances; due to modern medicine her life was prolonged. Was their brain activity? No. She was a shell of a person - there was no soul; it had already returned to God. The courts were fighting over a "shell", and the President was involved only to make a good showing as he is sweating his social security issues.
I, personally, cannot view this as starving a woman to death as I feel that she was already in God's kingdom; we were only sustaining her shell and nothing else.
This is definently a wake-up call - we need to let our choices be known so we aren't in this situation. I WILL NOT allow modern medicine to keep me alive against my, and God's, will.
How ironic is it that the Pope had something to say about the life support given Terry, yet, he himself is on a feeding tube?

If she WAS brain dead then how was she able to conmunicate with her family? if she WAS brain dead then she wouldn't be able to move. Right? RIGHT!

If theres life then theres a soul. she had a soul and it did NOT leave her till the very LAST MOMENT of her life here on earth!

How do you know that she communicated with her family? All the footage shown was from years before.....our bodies have reflexes which isn't necessarily "movement".
Her body may have been living, but the soul was gone as was her mind/brain.

I think that's its very difficult for people under the age of 40 to understand death and dying. Its so completely out of the realm of probablity, that its "new" to them.

Who would put a person 70 years old on life support if it meant they'd be that way for the next 16 years? I hope no one.

Terri's case is one about morals and ethics and has no place here. First of all, this is a bird board. Its just like religion and politics. You will change NO ONE'S mind, but will create dissent and unhappiness. Just remember that you may one day walk in those same shoes. Prepare for it. Take steps to lessen the impact on those you love.
