That is usually always the best advice. Being healthy can be better than trying to look great to only kill yourself.... Looking great however brings up peoples confidence, gets them into better shape (hopefully), and into being more outgoing and happier overrall.

I'm actively dieting since October when told I should lose weight (I was 240 and needed to be 175lbs before a successful spinal fusion could be done and rather than feel as if someone was hitting me with a sledge hammer in the back thanks to a bad disc daily, I figured I absolutely *had* to lose the weight.) and I hit my goal in mid Feb. Since then I've lost about 15lbs more and I plan on losing another 30lbs or so now that I'm mostly healed up from the surgery and my endurance is better than that of a corpse now.=) I'm not on Atkins- I did try it but with all the medicine I take it wasn't feasible and frankly I have the willpower of my caique Jellybean if thrown into a barrel of peanuts and sunflower seeds and then told not to eat any of 'em. And I like beer and bread. A lot. So I went with a calorie reduction lifestyle change instead and it's been working well after I got used to it. I basically eat whatever I want, just not as much.

I agree with what has been mentioned before. So many people are striving to be thin when really, their main concern should be to become healthy. If you decide to only diet, without regular exercise incorporated to your lifestyle, you won't be healthy.

Excercise is the best way to lose weight. Sure it might be hard work but you gain so much from it. Greater self confidence, faster metabolism, reduced chance of osteoporosis (especially important for women), weight loss, reduced chance of heart disease... and that's just to name a few.

The only "diet" I'm on is to be aware of what I eat. I try to avoid high fat foods, high salt, and high sugar. Cholesterol is something I'm really careful about too since heart problems run in the family. I make sure to enjoy everything with MODERATION. No fancy shmancy diet that says no this or no that..... exercise and moderation.
