Dreams vs. Reality

Okay, here's another post that'll allow us to learn about each other without polarizing us into opposing camps. And it's pretty easy, too. For each category, just list what you always hoped and thought it would be like (the dreams) and what it's actually like (the reality).

PROFESSION
Dreams: EMT, veterinarian, firefighter, soldier, football player, baseball player, rock star, doctor, anything dealing with animal/land preservation. And those are the nice ones.
Reality: I still don't know what I want to do when I "grow up." Right now I'm trying to figure out how to combine my interests with career possibilities.

RELATIONSHIP
Dreams: I always like a gal with dark eyes and dark hair. And despite my best efforts, I always end up thinking about the ones who need to put on a little weight. And there's something about a lady with an accent.... :icon_mrgr As for children, I never really thought about it. But it might be nice....
Reality: I've been single now for about 24 years, 5 months, and 11 days. That's also how long I've been alive. :aiwebs_01

TRANSPORTATION
Dreams: When I was younger I liked the look of the Porsche 911. And the past year or so I've been thinking about motorcycles too much. Anyway, when you travel, you should feel like you're moving somewhere (not like all these fancy new silent, silky smoothe cars). And horses are more environment-friendly than automobiles.
Reality: I still don't have a license, let alone a vehicle. Or a horse. But I was the Segway instructor at a summer camp a few years ago.

PETS
I always liked tigers. And I really like hawks and falcons. As for parrots, I've wanted one since I was first bitten by a macaw last year.
But right now the house only contains a 14-year old fox terrier, 2 guinea pigs, 2 zebra finches, and a peachfaced lovebird. The only thing missing? Having a pet that's mine. You know?

SOCIETY
I really should've been born in Europe about 1,000 years ago. Maybe I was? But I love working outside, riding in horse-drawn carts instead of cars, and the hiss an arrow makes as its feathers twirl through the air.
Unfortunately, I'm stuck in a 21st century suburban town right next to a major city. Too crowded, too much concrete and asphalt, and not enough of the simple little things to brighten my days.

Hmm... that's all I can think of right now, but feel free to add more yourself.

PROFESSION:
Dreams: Work for MTV, model, run a bird rescue, test drive and rate new cars.
Reality: I currently work as a nanny 33 hrs a week. I'm scheduled to graduate with a BA in Psychology in December, but have absolutely no idea what I'd like to do with it! (Not that I can do much...I'd need to get either a Master's or Doctorate's do really do anything special).

RELATIONSHIP:
Dreams: A guy who's 6' or taller, short blonde hair, green eyes, sun-kissed skin, and a muscular physique. He needs to be patient, willing to communicate, not shy to try new things, humorous, intelligent, and NOT selfish.
Reality: I've been with my current boyfriend for 3 3/4 years. Well, let's just say he's got the green eyes and humorous parts down. Unsure if the rest will ever develop (I doubt it).

TRANSPORTATION:
Dreams: When I was younger, I marvelled at the Pontiac Firebird WS6. Now, I don't really have one favorite car, but I am extremely fond of the new Chrysler 300C (the styling is stunning!) and the Bugatti Veyron. I'm quite the car nut, so my faves change constantly.
Reality: I drive a 1998 Honda Accord EX 4dr sedan. I love it! I had 2 Chevrolet Beretta's before this car, and compared to those two, my Honda is heaven! She's been good to me, so she'll be around for quite a while.

PETS:
Dreams: When I was little, I found the idea of having a black panther or a Leopon (cross between Leopard and Lion) as a pet. Right now, I guess my only "dream" would be to have my pet cat come live with me. But my boyfriend is deathly allergic to cats (and I've had cats all my life, so this is hard!), and she'd probably kill my birds within two weeks. She's quite the huntress.
Reality: I currently have two little budgies (Buddy and Lexi) and they're my world! I never thought one could form such a strong bond with such puny animals!! LOL

SOCIETY:
Dreams: I don't think I would have liked to live in any other era. I think that I'm in my proper place timewise.
Reality: I was born in 1983.

PROFESSION

Dreams: Mom, pet shop owner, my own business of whatever I can be successful at (I will get there someday)

Reality: I'm still a wanderer. Currently (and for the past 6 years, same company, different variations) I am a regional administrator/customer account manager(major gas station)/database coordinator/mass manipulation data queen/and general catchall for a major satellite telecommunications company.

RELATIONSHIP

Dreams: I am a strong person that always wanted an equal, but someone that could take care of me when I need it. Someone I truely love, and enjoy spending time with. Someone that deserves to be loved unconditionally and completely and would return the favor. One of the cool people of the world. And I want kids, but not quite yet.

Reality: Although we could BOTH loose a few pounds, I married what I described above :-) We both want kids... but not quite yet, been married a year!

TRANSPORTATION

Dreams: I'm a classic car girl; a chevy gal you might say. My dream car is a 1969 Z28 SS 302. Red with white Z28 stripes and houndstouth interior.

Reality: I had my dreamcar once. Well, Dad did. We got an offer that couldn't be refused a couple of years ago, and had to part with it. It was originally a Pennsylvania car so it was starting to get some good rust on it.... by the time I would have had the $$ to fix it, it probably would have been pretty bad anyway :-{ I have helped restore MANY classic cars, my favorites are the camarros. My everyday driver is a simple buick century (commuter car), and Danny and I also have a F150 supercrew. Dad and I still have a few really cool ones, though he can't work on them so much anymore... I still can, but seem to have limited time lately. Ask me sometime what we've got. I'll be glad to share, but don't want to advertise it.

PETS

Dreams: Wanted a Scarlet Macaw from the time I was three years old. I also wanted a monkey, a horse, and a boa, but not nearly as much as I wanted a Scarlet Macaw. Today: I would like an aviary so I can adopt some more comfortably. I also want a golden retriever...one of those "red" ones with the broad snout... and I want my cat back (she was taken last summer by a coyote).

Reality: I have my Tiki, my scarlet, my dream bird; she is almost 9 now, a gift to me when I was 16. The Dog is in the future, when we have a child that is old enough to enjoy a puppy. A cat; I will never have one again I think. Danny is allergic.

SOCIETY
Hey hey now, I thought you didn't want to polarize the chat. I of course wish for world peace and an end to hunger. My more realistic political views I will keep to myself at this time. There are many here that would agree with me, and a lot here that wouldn't. BUT, overall, I vote on the issues, not the parties.

Don't feel to bad about not having lived in Europe a thousand years ago. It has been very romantasized but it was full of disease, danger, and closed-mindedness. Even if you were rich and had the luxury of a castle, they were cold, dark, drafty and damp. Perhaps you are a Menonite at heart (minus the arrow part).

My dream job? To work as a full time artist. I'm doing it part-time for now so I guess I'm at least part way there.

Relationship? To love and be loved unconditionally. I'm in a relationship now, we had been togeter for 12 years but split up for a year having just gotten back together in March.

Transportation? An environmentally friendly car, perhaps a gas-electric hybrid.
Reality - long limosine with a whole bunch of other people, commonly known as a bus. I also walk a lot and am going to get myself a good bike now that the good weather has arrived.

Pets? When I was a child I told my mother I wanted to be a zoo keeper. I guess I'm at least part way there (see below for the animals that are currently in my life) I may be getting a red eyed tree frog at some point soon.

Society? For everyone to love each other for who they are, whatever religion (if any) they choose to beleive in, whatever sex, colour, shape, mental or physical condition....... Well we all know that THAT aint gonna happen any time soon and the mess the world is in. I'm going to try for peace and love in myself, that's hard enough sometimes.
