U.S.A Economy & you?

My husband drives to work everyday 2 hours one way. With gas prices we are really struggling not to mention food prices. It isn't a surprised to spend over 700 a month just for hubby's gas a month!

I was just curious as to how the U.S.A economy and high prices have effected you and how you are handleing them? And is it stressing you out as much as me?

I agree, it SUCKS. Sometimes I feel like we work just to fill up the truck to go to work. Vicious cycle.
I do find myself makeing less trips into town, and haveing bigger lists and more errands to run when I do.
Nothing we can really do about it,and Stress will just make ya crabby.

On the otherhand, since I spend more time at home now, I have gotten alot of projects done

Very true, but I also find it a little hard to put anything in savings. And somethimes pay a bill late as to all the $ goes in to the dang tank!!! Just makes me mad that it got to this point...Now the Gov. is like "hey what happened"!!!

Makes me mad too. I refuse to worry about it anymore.
I don't like the high prices, trust me.
On the bright side, For me personally I am more of a thrifty shopper.

HAS to be a bright side

We live 30 mins in the country so everytime we go to town, it costs us quite a bit. We have a big 3/4 ton truck that gets 15mpg on a good day. If we have to drive to Denver, it costs us $100 in gas minimum so we always make sure we are doing as much as we can in one trip (like picking up Rudy, Charlie, and that cage tonight). We pay $3.76 a gallon for gas. Worst thing is even if we just need something like milk or bread, we have to go to town. We have no convenience stores or anything out here. The best thing is that hubby works a mile from our house so unless we have to make a trip to Denver, Cheyenne, Greeley... we can make a tank of gas last two weeks. Of course it seems like at least ever two weeks we end up in Denver because we have to have something for the birds or another rescue. There is an end in sight though, we've got one more rescue out there that the owners are going to call us about next week and after that, we're going to call it quits for a while so we can get the house arranged the way we want it and well, since my job is an internet radio DJ... I have to get them all situated to where I can be on the air and the birds aren't heard LOL. Diddle and Alfie are quiet when theres music going but Marti thinks music is an invitation to talk LOL.

What has gotten us after the obvious gas prices is the price of veggies, fruits, and milk. We grew our own veggies and fruits this year for the fids and it really helped. Then again not many people have acres they can plant either LOL.

It does stress me out... especially when we fill up the gas tank... it starts to go over $100 and I start to freak out.

The whole thing makes me glad that my husband decided to stay in the Navy a little longer. We had to trade in the SUV and now I have a car that greats gas mileage but I got laid off after I got it. Thankfully I was able to get another job again but it has been a hard few months for us. I cannot believe the prices of food lately! There are things that I use to buy all the time but now with the prices of everything going up we have had to cut back a lot. I hope that soon all of these hard times will be behind all of us.

Thank God I'm going to be a Nurse!! There are always going to be sick people so there is always going to be a need for me :)

I don't graduate till May though so until them life stinks. I make about $250 a month but half of that goes to gas and half of that gets spent of my zoo of animals. It's rough...
There needs to be something done because there is NO way we can go like this for much longer. Quality of life for people is diminishing! Gas here is $4.00 a gallon!! Seriously.... that's insane.

I think its hard and stress on everyone.
My husband is also military. He has quite a drive to work now since we moved and he was transferred again(but I aint moving again!)
Lukily my car is economical,(mustang,6 cyl, 30 somethin miles to the gallon) and my job is 5 miles to the house.
But one thing we did was open a store in this economy. I have seen people cutting back, and hopefully, I can still accommodate what they need at prices they can afford.

I hope we all find ourselves sittin a little prettier this time next year...

I live about 48 miles one way from my workplace and I've been carpooling for nearly 3 years now - it's actually a vanpool that is through a statewide company. I work at a University and the U has a deal with the carpooling company - the U pays our parking pass (even driving myself it's quite a hefty annual fee to park anywhere remotely close to my building), the company supplies the van & pays for all maintenance, and our only cost is a $25.00 monthly fee from the U and gas to run the van. There are 6 of us so we split the gas cost 6 ways and it has literally saved me hundreds of dollars (and I even drive a Honda Civic which gets about 35-36 mpg). Not to mention that I get to sleep on the way to work - we all take turns driving and I end up driving once per week.

Check into carpooling at your workplace or see if there's a statewide company like the one I'm a part of. The only downside is that there's little flexibility in your work hours as everyone has to be on the same schedule - but many times this works to my advantage because people cannot dump a ton of work on me at the last minute and expect me to stay late.
