I stopped feeding the wild birds near my house for 2 reasons. First of all, it attracted mourning doves which also attracted hawks to the feeders. I got sick of seeing a pile of brown/grey feathers under the feeders every few days. Secondly, I don't want to encourage wild birds and their droppings to be anywhere near my captive birds. I don't want parasites, especially worms cropping up in my parrots. My fids like to walk across the grass on the way to the aviary. I know that's risky, but hey, I run with scissors.
You have to decide for yourself if its a good idea. Frankly, my feed bill for the 10 parrots is enough to make me re-think feeding anything else. I am very careful not to offer the leftovers from my birds to the wild population. By the time I would toss it out, it would be contaminated anyway. I just think its unfair to hungry wildlife to lure them in for stuff that might be fatal. THE OUTLAW
