Gulf of Mexico vacation spots?

Does anybody know of a good place, off-the-beaten-trail? I'd like a nice beach, a pool, tennis, and NO amusement parks.

It's hard to sift through all the junk on the net, but Mustang Island Texas, and Gulf Shores Alabama look nice...

Gulf Shores Alabama is stunning. Hubby and I stayed at the State Park hotel, and our room had one glass wall facing the water. Nice park, with all the amenities. We loved it.
Have fun wherever you go, it'd be real hard to find a place you won't like down there!!

I love Gulf Shores as well. I spent many a happy childhood vacation there. I also love Pensacola and Destin Florida. It is close to the same area and it has pristine beaches. There is also an island called Dauphin Isalnd which is just off of the coast by Mobile, Alabama. It is paradise. The closer you stay to Alabama the cheaper the prices seem to be. Plus, the Alabama/Panhandle coast is amongst the prettiest places I have ever seen. Have a great vacaction. I would also like to add a huge congratulations about your very best of news. And a special hug to your daughter. Her reaction is precious. Poor put-out little princess. I hope her royal subjects find a way to make up this trangression. :icon_smil Good luck with everything.

Check out Siesta Key or Longboat key in Sarasota Fl. . Both small , out of the way with all the ammenities and wild quakers, along with other parrots. I also love Boca Grande, Fl it is very small but has awesome fishing.

I seem to remember that Navarre Beach is also a really nice, quiet place along the panhandle....... what struck me is that the sand is so white it looks like snow!! I'm sure our resident Floridians can add as it's been years since I've been there. http://www.navarrefl.com/

Crebain,

My parents just moved to Fairhope. AL last June to retire so over the past year, I have been given the opportunity to explore the surrounding areas when I have gone down to visit! Gulf Shores is indeed very lovely, as is Desitin and Pensacola, however both Florida cities are still showing the wake of Ivan so things may not quite be back up to vacation par yet...Gulf Shores didn't seem to sustain as much damage somehow, or at least it was repaired much quicker. Good luck in your continued searching and belated congratulations on your wonderful news of your family addition!!!
