Washington state quaker petition, please help
http://www.petitiononline.com/QPWA2005/petition.html
Because of the involvement of quaker organizations and volunteers, we may still be able to save the wild Quakers and their nest in Washington state. The short of it... the cell phone company, Cingular owns a cell tower in that area and is going to build a new tower near an outdated tower where the Quakers have built their nests. Only the state department of Fish and Wildlife is thinking of not letting them stay, boo to them!!! Cingular seems to be friendly towards the quakers at this time. The link leads to a petition presented by Cheryl, a quaker owned attorney who contacted me recently in Washington state and is very helpful in this matter. Anyone who wishes to save Wild Quakers and their nests, feel free to sign the petition at the link below. If you choose to make a comment, please make it a positive one because all concerned are in favor of the Quakers. PLEASE BE FRIENDLY!!! Thank you.

OK, then. You must feel the same way about dogs and cats, too. They certainly aren't native either. The point is that nature constantly adapts and replaces species that are less suitable. Only the strong survive. However, with humans intervening and selecting WHICH species will be given extra help, animals like quakers will be destroyed. Frankly, I think they will survive anyway. Nature has a way of circumventing our assinine plans. We over-fish, over-hunt and over-plant everything and then we complain when native animals succumb. We are the REAL enemies of anything wild.

Outlaw:
There are a lot of examples of non-native species ending up in habitats not their own and causing havoc and even wiping out native species. Zebra muscles, african bees, even the North American Gray Squirrel (Which is on its way to wiping out the English red squirrel) have caused untold damage and loss of life when introduced to habitats not their own. I can't see supporting a species in a habitat not native to its own if it's impacting a native species. That's why I have a concern with signing my petition and why I asked my question. What dogs & cats have to do with this, or even your rant about over-fishing I have no idea. But whatever makes you feel good. |
