Can Birds And Cats Co Exist Happily?
Ok i know its just in cats to want birds but i'd love to give Peaches as much out of cage time as possible. One of our cats just WILL NOT leave the birds alone and i'm thinking of rehoming this due to this and other reasons. My other cat though is just my baby. Yes he looks at the birds and i would'nt trust him alone with them. Anyone have any ideas or is it just some thing that there is no solution to?

my sister has a cat named spike and i have starburst my budgie.....and our cat doesn't seem to pay any attention to my bird at all....although he hated my old one rocky :P when i had rocky spike would just sit near the cage and stare at him the whole day.....but one day he jumped on the cage and knocked it down...luckily the bird was not injured just scared to death! i might suggest that u keep an eye on those cats of urs and whenever they get to close to the bird cage just get a squirt bottle and squirt the cat(s) with full blast and not mist.......hope that helps

I am lucky too, I have 3 cats and luckily they don't bother my birds! They will chatter if they see birds outside but somehow they know the birds inside are off limits. I had my cats young though and right from the start they learned not to bug the birds. One of my 3 even sits with my IRN! they sit on the sink together while I take my bath. Even still I keep an eye on things but trust him alot! Goodluck with Peaches!

My cats were raised around my birds... My 3 yr old, Dax, knows the birds are off limits. She has learned that if she sees me pick up the squirt bottle, she better run. Bina, my 3 month old, is still learning to stay away from the birds. Just a little bit ago, she was up near the swing-out door on my GCs' cage. They were both sitting atop the door while Bina was sniffing it. Kira came down, puffed up, and bit Bina's ear. Bina ran away, and learned that Kira bites. ;)
I would still not trust them to be in the same room unsupervised. That would be stupidity and ignorance on my part. I could never put my birds at risk like that. |

Hey! Where is all the anger? This woman dares to want to keep cats and birds, people! When I posted the same question a few weeks ago, I wound up having to defend myself just for asking ...
PS. Go for it, and keep the spray bottle handy, just in case. |
