Arrow Update, i.e. roommate, if anyone interested...

Over the past few weeks the roommate has been moving her stuff out in boxes and the like in her car though usually for the most part coming home late and leaving early. My mother has offered her 10,000 minus the money that she owes my mother (not including rent). In return, the roommate gave my mother a letter stating that she could not live on the premises, even after trying to 'compromise' (giving her $25,000 so that she would not force us to sell the house??? would that be compromising? and since when did she call it that?), especially because of how my mother was acting 'hostile' towards her. My mother couldn't see how she was acting hostile, though I thought about it in the opinions of the roommate and could see.

Past few days, the roommate was leaving her AC on in her room, or leaving windows open on cold nights. Today, she left her bedroom door open with the window open (way for cats to get outside, they are now indoor cats), left her bathroom door open (Squirt went in for a second time, stole the toilet paper rolls in the bag to shred at a later time)... Oh, and when I got home today, Bullet (dog) was inside the house (luckily, he only destroyed one thing, which I do not know what it was), and the swamp cooler was on high vent with all the windows in the dining room, kitchen, and living room opened. Add to that, she has finally moved her bed, dresser, and anything else that may have been hers in 'her' room. Down side, she locked the door, leaving my old dresser, an old but tall bookshelf, and the vacuum cleaner in her room (and I don't feel like trying to go through the window or picking the lock).

I doubt that we have seen the last of her for the weekend, though we have our hopes up high to not see her! We don't really know though what may be going up with the court situation (maybe she's waiting till the end of the month??? the summer??? or did she decide to get smart and just leave? we have no clue)

If anyone was interested, this is the update for now...

It's hard to say if she'll actually take us to court or not now as she is no longer paying for the house expenses, and if she's smart enough she wont because she hasn't lived here long enough so if she did try to sell it there would be taxes on the house... She'd have to wait over a year for the taxes to be lifted, and by then there would be no point in trying to force us to sell the house when we would have payed more than double by that time and it wouldn't make sense because she hasn't been living in it nor paying for it... legally, she owns half of it, but just to take us to court would make it harder for her, either way she tried to go about it... and would make her look ridiculous (she seems like one of those blonds out of one of those jokes, especially after finding her credit cards in a ziplock bag in the freezer when she blamed my mother for stealing them... if anyone knows anything about putting credit cards in the freezer, you put them in a bag with water and freeze it.... this was pointless because indeed they were in a bag, but there was no water! no ice!)

Anyway, quite off topic... forgot to mention that my mother gave her till the end of this month to move out... We suspect that she has bought a house (one that was on the market where she works is now gone) and has moved most of her stuff into it as her bed and dresser, and most of her other stuff is now gone. There's a bunch of other stuff though can't really remember it all, so I'll just end here, and if I hear anything about court or anything then I'll just make a reply...

LOL! Well, tomorrow, or atleast for the following month, we have plans to renovate the house (i.e. remodel). We plan on rearranging the livingroom, using the extra bedroom as a 'guest' bedroom, computer room, and extra storage (if we can fit all those things in that tiny room!), that is, until my sister and her fiancee come back (husband & wife by then most likely) for a short while...

We also have a shed thats up and ready to be used so we have things we are planning on putting inside (though I think its still too small... it would be easier if we had a garage!). OH, and forgot to mention, we also want to get that extra room sheetrocked a.s.a.p. though it'll probably be a while...

Crebain, I've heard of people putting their credit cards in the freezer, in a bag filled with water so they freeze and keep you from using them. They were suggesting this so people wouldn't use their credit cards. This is the only think I can think of. Kinda dumb though, a couple of minutes in hot water and you can use them again.
This is the only thing I can think of but don't know if it pertains to this situation or not.

I've heard of having one's assets frozen, but that's ridiculous!

Lara, I believe that's the reason why! I don't simply understand it if its not in water as you could still use them, however putting them in a bag of water and freezing them keeps a person from immediately using the credit cards... One could of course easily just break the ice or melt it somehow (such as in warm water, or even running cool water over the ice) but it usually takes some time still. Just hopefully no one puts them in the microwave to thaw!

It is good that she is leaving at last, but be aware if her name is on the deeds/mortgage, she still has every right to a share of "profit" (for want of a better word) when and if the house is sold. Or for your mum to buy the room mates share of the house. I would make sure any transactions are done legally so the room mate has no comeback, the get her name of the deeds. Good luck.
