Glad to find another writer around here! Are you going to do the NaNoWriMo thing this coming November as well or no? (if you know what it is)

-What and When first got you interested in creative writing?

As far back as I can remember, I've always composed epic tales in my head. I wrote creative stories all through school as assignments, but when I finally got older and stopped playing with toys (which I used to act out these stories), I began writing. I started reading a lot too, and as such, my writing improved and became more frequent until I was doing it constantly--even during classes.

-How long have you been writing?

The first story I remember writing was in second grade, but I probably didn't start doing it on my own and fequently until about 7th grade. So that'd make me 12...meaning I've been writing like that for about 13 years.

-Do you enjoy writing prose (short stories and novels) or poetry?

I most enjoy writing what I call "blurbs". They're not really entirely short stories, but more like moments of a story that I have to get out. Other than that, most of my stories remain unfinished, but were heading towards novel-length.

I've written poetry but it's not something that really speaks to me. And I am VERY critical of poetry--particular that which rhyyymes *shiver*.

-What genres do you like to write most (Romance, sci-fi, fantasy, mystery/triller, comedy, etc...)?

Romance. Particularly adult, dark, violent crap. I have issues.

I don't like to point to one genre though. I've written realistic stuff in contemporary settings, in historical settings...and things about gods and non-human being type creatures. I don't really limit myself to the staples of usual genre.

Mainly I love anything character driven. Doesn't matter who or what they are....it's the dialogue (internal and external) and interactions that drive my stories.

-Were you/are you part of any creative writing classes/clubs?

Naw. Never had an interest in that. Would probably just get in trouble for critting someone who didn't want to be critted. >_>

-Do you know anyone else who likes to write?

Lots of people! But in particular, my best friend, who does mostly autobiographical stuff but can write some hilarious things as well. I like her writing very much and she's my main editor just like I am hers.

-Are you working on a piece of writing (whenver you get the chance to)?

I have a new story planned and there are tons on the back-burner. Some day I'll get time to sit down and work on it when the idea strikes me. o.0

It would be great if I could actually finish one and get it published....but like I said, I have a hard time finishing stories and plots are the devil.

Glad to hear from another writer around here! I tend to have a hard time finishing stories as well, but mostly those that are novel length. I don't have as hard of a time finishing short stories. I have to be in the mood to write in order to write something and/or finish it. I also have a few story ideas that are on the back burner as well and tend to stay there for a long time.

If I were to write romance, It would probably be dark and maybe violent, as well. But of course, I'd probably add a fantasy twist to it too . I tend to keep myself in the fantasy genre because thats what I enjoy writing (and reading) the most. I enjoy a little sci-fi here and there and sometimes urban fantasy as well.

Is everyone getting prepared? I bought a book specifically about Nanowrimo called, No Plot No Problem and it is awesome! The writer says not to get too prepared because that is a sure sign that your momentum will crash. The way he said it was that if you are preparing to write THE best story and you want it to be absolutely perfect. Nano is about just writing, not being perfect or even proofreading. Proofreading is for after Nov 30th.

My way of preparing is to buy a notebook (got it. have a laptop but my lovebird is not going to let me type on it), find a nice pen (did it), buy that book (didn't need it but I am enjoying it anyway), and living with my characters for a week in my head.

I want to get some easy food to snack on and make up a menu so I know what to have for quick dinners and at least that part of my life will be less stressful. Oh, and buy lots of coffee LOL

Any good ideas for snack foods?

Living with the characters in your head for a week, sounds fun! I have a few characters in my head begging me to pay attention to them lol.

I think I've heard about that book before, but I don't have the money to buy it and I'm not sure I'd refer to it often lol. The past two days the only characters from my novel in a month story I've paid attention to is the two main characters. A couple of brand new characters I have made for another story/project thing I got going has been taking up most of my attention lol. Good luck to you and have fun living with those characters in your head, especially if they are fun, interesting characters!

Are you going to consider posting an excerpt of your story on this thread once you get going on the story? I'm going to post an excerpt from each chapter of my story if anyone would be willing to read!

Well, it depends on the story you're writing. If it's got a lot of sexual and/or violent content, don't even bother! You don't have to post your story if you don't want to. I'm not going to post the WHOLE thing of my novel in a month story, but I'm considering sharing an excerpt from each chapter, as I've told Jally in the paragraphs before.
