I will just give a summary . :)
I have a BS in English. In high school and college I was published a few times with my poetry and essays, and I won some awards as well. When I got into the "real world" I realized I had to earn money. I had taken one technical writing class and a research class. I used both to land a job as a temporary technical writer. That led to a permanent position as a tech writer for a semiconductor company. I was able to make a good living for a 20 something new grad, but it was a far cry from creative writing. I still wrote articles for magazines here and there, and had two more poems published but never was paid for those-- it was done for smaller magazines/publications and I was just happy to see myself in print. LOL
Somewhere along the way life got busy and I lost my passion for writing. I still journal-- I have been keeping a blog since 1999. But as far as earning a living or having a book published-- I just don't have the time or creative energy. I have two kids who use up a lot of my energy -- and I'm glad to give it. I decided to back to school a couple of years ago and am now in nursing school. When I graduate I will be earning a living and using my creative energy to help patients feel better and heal. It's not writing, but it's still creative.
