I know that not a lot of people will read and/or reply to this. Heck I don't think people really care about what I post. Anyway, I've been considering on and off for a while about trying to see if there are any creative writers on this board. So, any creative writers around here? If so, heres a few questions I would like to ask you:
-What and When first got you interested in creative writing? -How long have you been writing? -Do you enjoy writing prose (short stories and novels) or poetry? Both? -What genres do you like to write most (Romance, sci-fi, fantasy, mystery/triller, comedy, etc...)? -Were you/are you part of any creative writing classes/clubs? -Do you know anyone else who likes to write? -Are you working on a piece of writing (whenver you get the chance to)? I might as well answer these questions as well. What and when first got you interested in creative writing? I'm not entirely sure what got me highly interested in creative writing, but if I recall, I became very interested in it during my junior year of high school. I know, a little late, but still. How long have you been writing? I've been writing somewhat since junior high (got a poem published in a book for a contest), but as for the writing I like to do now, I've been writing since junior year. Do you enjoy writing prose (short stories and novels) or poetry? Both? I enjoy writing prose more than poetry. I like reading both, but poetry is sometimes a pain in the butt to do, so I like to stick with the short stories and novels, which for me are easier to do. What genres do you like to write most (Romance, sci-fi, fantasy, mystery/triller, comedy, etc...)? I enjoy writing Fantasy the most, for I find it more interesting than reality lol. I also enjoy reading fantasy the most more than any other genre. right now I've been reading Memnoch The Devil by Anne Rice, which is the fifth book in her Vampire Chronicles. Those kind of books are consided Urban Fantasy, which I also enjoy to an extent. Were you/are you part of any creative writing classes/clubs? Ever gone to a Literary/Writing festival? I was part of my high school creative writing club junior and senior year. There was not a lot of members, so I and the others who ever came to those meetings were considered "The inner circle" lol. I wish there were creative writing classes back when I was school. When I head off to college (someday), I would like to partake in a creative writing class. Yes, I have gone to a literary festival. The one I went to was back in November of 2008 and it took place at Milikin University in Decatur, Illinois. I went with four of my friends, who were also part of the club. We got to sleep in an unused dorm building and heard a story that a student back in the 30's had died in that same buidling we slept in. Do you know anyone else who likes to write? Some of my friends like to write as well. I have a friend name Jesse whose writing I find AMAZING and so much better than mine. Are you working on a piece of writing (whenver you get the chance to)? Yes. In fact, I got a few things going on. Getting ready for NaNoWriMo, which is the National November Writing Month that goes every year in November. you can see a link here: National Novel Writing Month . I'm not going to tell the details of the story, but its fantasy. I also decided to start writing some short stories that I'm considering letting my mom read since its about vampires and she likes vampires. The other thing I'm doing is what is only known as a "creative experiment". Its a story where I can practice my writing in the fantasy genre. All I can say is that its about a female drow and her brother. If you don't know what a drow is, then go here: Drow Directory If you made it this far, CONGRATULATIONS! So, any creative writers around here? if not, thats fine. Just thought I'd take the time to ask! Btw, this took me a while to type up! |

Its ok, I'm not too great at writing either, but once in a while I write something good! I'm doing the stuff i'm doing now to practice! I tend to have a lot of ideas in my head and most of them never get written down. In fact, I have one at the moment that I think I'm gonna want to get down on paper (or computer). Writing tends to calm me down as well :).

What and When first got you interested in creative writing?
Both of my parents were avid readers, as was my oldest sister. I was always been read to and as a result, I started reading independently at an early age. Writing followed shortly thereafter. How long have you been writing? Probably kindergarten or first grade. I'm always jotting down some kind of nonsense. Do you enjoy writing prose (short stories and novels) or poetry? Both? Short stories and personal narrative. What genres do you like to write most (Romance, sci-fi, fantasy, mystery/triller, comedy, etc...)? Modern women's fiction, I suppose. Were you/are you part of any creative writing classes/clubs? Nothing outside of school/college... and in college, I was too intimidated to take any of the writing workshops. I mean, when the prof is a Pulitzer prize-winning poet you tend to second guess yourself ;) Do you know anyone else who likes to write? Baby bro is a fantastic writer, although I swore that he was illiterate until 6th grade. I wish that he'd devote more time to his writing as I think that he has the potential to be a great fantasy writer. Are you working on a piece of writing (whenver you get the chance to)? I make half-a$$ed attempts at personal narrative via journaling but not as much as I used to. One of these days I might sign up for a creative writing class at the local college just to get in the habit of writing again...

What and When first got you interested in creative writing?
I have always wanted to be 'a writer' as far back as I can remember. I think I wrote my first short story around age 10. How long have you been writing? as far back as I can recall.. I always enjoyed English more than other subjects One time in grade 10, we had to write a letter to a newspaper or magazine. Mine was the only one in the class that got published (it was for birdtalk) and I was really excited about that. I took Writing12 by correspondence and really enjoyed all the writing in that course.Do you enjoy writing prose (short stories and novels) or poetry? Both? I have written poetry and had something published in a local teen magazine. I usually prefer to write short stories; novel ideas come and go but I've never been able to sit down and actually plan one. What genres do you like to write most (Romance, sci-fi, fantasy, mystery/triller, comedy, etc...)? hmmm... I suppose just drama, or something non fiction about my life? Were you/are you part of any creative writing classes/clubs? Nope. I used to be part of this online site called rate your writing ... Then I stopped writing for a few years. Do you know anyone else who likes to write? Apparently I had some relatives that were in the newspaper business - either journalist, reporter, I forget... but mostly when I was growing up, there were a couple other people in school that were as good (or better) than me at it.. I got envious of those girls. I remember one time I almost accused my friend of sitting with a dictionary when she wrote, just to sound smarter.. Because her reports always had these long fancy words in them. She was like my frenemy. I hate those. ![]() Are you working on a piece of writing (whenver you get the chance to)? I sometimes submit things to birdtalk, but recently I haven't been writing much. I do keep a journal online. I really want to get back into writing more, because it's a pleasant distraction for me..

Thanks for the replies so far guys! I'm glad to see I'm not the only one out there who writes! AJ (if thats what I may call you now hsmoscout), I know how you feel, sometimes even I feel like quitting! Astrid660, I think you should get back into writing if you really, REALLY want to. Eliza, cool to hear that your younger brother was a fantasy writer at some point. Writing is not very easy, especially if you get writers block!

I come from a family that loved to read. Our most favorite family outing was to the library. My imagination was always wild. So, for me, writing is the next step. I've always wanted to write, but never had the courage. Just a few days ago, I signed up for Nanowrimo and I can't wait to get started!!
