Fire

Well I was watching Say Yes to the Dress and I hear a beeping. I wake up my husband (he is sick). He finally hears it.
So he goes out side to see where it is coming from. We live in apt complex. He finds out it is coming from the apt attached to us. I start smelling smoke.
We get the children outside while calling 911. My hubby knocks on the door. No one answers. So the fire department gets here.
They go in there. The guy fell asleep while boiling hot dogs. There was tons of smoke coming out of his apt.
I am so glad we called. My hubby was trying to say I was crazy. So an hour later the apt is safe to go in. So now my boring Friday had some action. lol

Very scary. At least we know what to do if it ever really happens.

WOW...glad everyone is ok!! That's my worst fear living in an apartment complex also, that someone is going to be carless and burn the place down when I am not home. I don't know what I would do if I lost my babies. Renters insurance will cover everything else, which I could care less about, but it cold never replace my babies! I must be a freak, because I never leave anything on what I leave our place, everything has to be off, except some lights and the tv for the kids. So no computers are left on ceiling fans, appliances, nothing, but of course I can't speak for the people lving close to us. All I hope is that they are responsible people! Did the smoke get into your apartment and affect any of your guys?

How did you get her out?

I was just thinking about this the other day, what I would do. Both birds are not tame, and while Meadow's cage is small enough to be carried, Mango's is not. I also only have 1 travel cage, so I was thinking about buying another one because if we ever need to get out for an extended time, I only have 2 cat carriers and 1 bird cage, but 4 animals. I really need to figure out an emergency plan.

Was he using non stick pans? It's a good thing the smoke didn't come into your apartment and get to Abbey!!

I don't think he was using non stick...
Abbeys cage is movable, dog on leash, Kitty in arms an he goes into the car and fish in other hand. It all works if there are 2 people. If it is just me then I will have to take 2 trips... Thank God I am on the ground floor.

Are apt was full of smoke. I got Abbey out as soon as I smelled smoke. She went across the parking lot an got to watch the really big fire truck. My hubby went back in and opened all the windows and doors and turned on all the fans. So it took an hour to air out. I am very happy that it didn't hurt her. I would have sued him.... Insurance doesn't cover feelings. She is my baby.

We had a kitchen fire a few years ago. We carried out the rat cages, caught all of the cats (one went back inside and hid in the basement, I was soo worried the whole time about her. She wasn't very tame back then, so me trying to find her was freaking her out.) and dogs and put them in my mom's minivan that we had at the time. The only thing I couldn't get out was my fish. I lost my whole tank, which was very upsetting. We were lucky then that we had enough to get everyone but the fish out. Now we have crates in the basement for all of the cats, the leashes for the dogs are all in one place, and I have a box next to my turtle for a quick exit. Unfortunately, if it ever happens again, I won't be able to rescue my 5 fish tanks.

We have the front apt and he has the back so I walked back there with the dog to see if any smoke was coming out after we got everyone out. He just opened the sliding doors. There was a ton of smoke coming out. I told him I called the fire department. He said whatever... I couldn't believe that.

He later asked my husband if he would get a ticket for it.... The fire department doesn't give out tickets. My husband said he was drunk... I was shocked.
We were very lucky. I told my husband that my worrying finally paid off. I have everything set up for just in cases.
Thank you all.
