I'm soooooo glad I don't have a dog. I had to dogsit a while back, and one of the dogs had explosive diarrhea all over the place (as in, when this dog starts squirting, he won't stand still... he feels the need to walk ALL over the house in the middle of his movement). I had to clean that nasty stuff off multiple walls! And the smell of dog crap (and kittly litter too) makes me physically gag. Give me bird doo-doo all over my clothes any day!

Our little dog has had no problems but our big dog lets it go sometimes I think just to let it go. And always when I have just mopped.

I feed my dogs Taste of the Wild Pacific stream formula, which is an excellent food, however, my bulldog still expresses his anal glands on occassion. I have just learned to deal with it. I have a comforter over my couch (with 3 dogs the couch needs the protection anyway lol), and we keep wipes handy at all times. When I smell that fishy poo type smell, I just clean him off lol. Its funny what we learn to desensitize ourselves to, I have no problem with dog grossness, but if a baby sneezes baby slime all over me, I nearly vomit, and then I wash the area Monk style for like 30 mins :-)

Lol, baby slime, that's hilarious. Has anyone ever tried a raw diet? Like Barf or prey model? It's supposed to drastically cut down on ALL the gastro-intestinal issues. Including analglad issues I assume. Also supposed to keep their teeth in perfect condition without need for tooth brushes or even dental treats.

My wife's old beagle (who had to be euthanized several years ago) had horrible anal gland issues. Since my wife refused to do it, she was at the vet's on a regular basis. Then they were infected... which required antibiotic 'flushes' that would keep her at the clinic for at least a day at a time. Nothing worked. The smell was unbearable, and soon had spread into the carpets, the furniture, etc. Poor old girl. Multiple long standing medical issues forced the decision to put her out of her pain. It was still a long time before the smell got any better. That's the only dog I'd ever heard of having all those issues with it....

Nooooo thank you! This is why I stick with cats and birds!
Cats have anal glands too! Their stench is MUCH worse than dogs, just ask my cat when he gets nervous!
