Amazing Weekend at the Sanctuary!

My husband and I had an amazing experience this weekend. We have been talking for awhile about volunteering at a parrot rescue. We feel this is something we want to do to honor the fids that we have at home.

We are very fortunate to have an amazing Sanctuary about 20 minutes from our home where they love and care for their residents in a wonderful setting.

We found it because we had look in CL about getting a larger place for Baby Isis and they were advertising a few cages they were selling which proceeds would help a Cockatoo who is ill, but getting much better thanks to a volunteer who is taking care of him.

So we went out there got the cage and this weekend we went to pick up another one. Anyway, we got the tour and we were so in awwww. I must say we were so happy to be there. We felt we belonged. I have a cast on my leg, but that does not keep me from anything I really want to do. So cast and all we went walking! We got to see so many many beautiful birds. What beautiful songs we heard ---- it seemed like a beautiful concert giving to us by natures most beautiful musicians and they wanted to share it with us. How fortunate we were to be there.

So many personalities. Some liked to be touched, some liked just to be talked to, and some did both. But all of them showed us their beauty in one way or another. There was an Indian Crow that was magnificent. It was flying from one end to another. We could have stayed there for hours just looking at him! I could write for hours the feeling we felt while being there. Contentment is just one feeling. There are no words that can express the calm we felt. I was like a child in a candy shop with no limits!

I am very fortunate to have a partner for the last 32 years that enjoys nature and its beautiful creatures! There is nothing better than to share ones loves with the person who you are sharing your life with. I am so very very lucky.

Went we got home we could not wait to tell Shakti, Baby Isis and Dharma all about it. We just wanted to hold them, play with them and let them know how fortunate we are that they are in our lives.

I also have other news, but for now I cannot share it (even though I would love to). But as I always say what is to be, will be. What is in store for us will come to be.

OH crap now I have to wait for the other news and sit here and think about what it might be?!?!

Im so jealous that you have a sanctuary so close to your house. How I wish for one of those in my area. Its hard to have one in Michigan, an outdoor enclosure at least, only because the weather is so random here and the temps fluctuate so much. It really has to be an indoor area (one day I will have one, I swear!!). Did you take any pictures? Sounds like so much fun.

What a beautiful post.

I know of the sanctuary that you are speaking of and have also gone to visit it personally. One of my dear friends volunteers there and is an incredible addition to an already beautiful and peaceful place. I am often uncomfortable with sanctuaries as I worry that some set them up for the purpose of hoarding and do not care for the animals the way they need. The owner of this place has a heart of gold and really goes out of her way to make sure that her birds are given only the best. It is rare that we have a bird at our rescue that is in need of being placed with a sanctuary instead of a person, but when we do get them, I try to send them to the sanctuary you mentioned above.

On a different note...

...Why can't you share your other news?

Emily: I am not sure if I am at liberty to discuss our "big news". All I can tell you that it is GOOD! It was a bit rocky, but I think it is back on track!

LovelySydney: You will not have to sit very long! I hope to be able to share very soon.
It is lovely to have a Santuary like Gulf Coast. It is a wonderful place. If they permit, I will take pictures so that you guys can take a looksy.

Anna: It is very very difficult to keep this to myself! Keeping a secret is not in my nature!!!

I had to go get a bit more plaster on it because I was on the go to much according to my doctor. I actually wore the heel off in less than 1 week. He said knowing me he should have known better....not much keeps me down!
