eclectus diet

I've been feeding her fruits in the morning: strawberries, cherries, mango, peach, apple-with maybe some almonds on top or a dash of yogurt mixed in. At night she gets: kale, spinach, garlic, peppers, zucchini, lettuce, carrots, and onion. I read that onion is bad for them though and will be picking it out of her mix in the future.

I also offer soft mix every other day in place of a morning or evening meal that consists of wild rice or plumped corn and potato. She has a bowl of seed/nut mix always in its own dish so that the soft foods don't ruin her dry food.

Is this an okay diet? I'm soaking lentils, chick peas, pigeon peas, white northern beans, and barley tonight in an attempt to sprout them next week. If that works, then I will incorporate those into her diet as well.

Am I feeding her too much fresh food?

Sounds like an excellent diet to me! They can never have too much fresh food. You may want to add some more whole grains to the mix, but other than that you're right on target!

thank you for the response. We don't eat a whole lot of pasta or rice here so we'll have to make a concerted effort to cook them for her.

I did get some sprouts started this afternoon so this should help to include more complex carbs in her diet.

Your ekkies diet sounds fine. I feed mine a mixed bean vegetable soup mix and then I add rice/pumpkin/carrot/lentils/sweetpotatoe and anything thing else I can think of. I cook a heap up and put it into separate containers and freeze. I also cook porriage (rolled oats) and when cooked I add fresh fruit and nuts and sometimes desicated coconut on top with passionfruit (whatever fruit I have). I also cook up polenta (sometimes I cook it with the porriage)........oh and I do not add milk or sugar to it (I do not use sugar or salt anyway when cooking or eating myself anyway). I also buy fresh sprouts and feed them to her daily (she loves them). she also loves to eat mashed potatoe and anything else we eat. She eats sultanas, bananas corn, peas etc etc, she just loves food She also loves lasagne and fried rice too About the only thing I do not give is onion, avocado, choc or alcohol.
