Are they huge bald spots or is he just looking sort of raggedy?
He's most likely just molting which is perfecly normal and expected. Lovebirds molt a lot, lol. We humans just keep growing our hair but birds replace their feathers instead of growing them longer, so when the new ones are ready to grow the old ones come off. You'll notice little white sheathes on his head most likely and he'll scratch them off.

Rub your finger over the top of your lovebird's head. If you feel the pin feathers coming in, most likely it is a molt. This time of year, almost all of our lovies are molting and with the temperature change and heat being turned on, feathers are dropping like crazy. Generally lovebirds will molt 1-2 times yearly.
