Angry Male Love Bird NESTING EVERYWHERE

I have had Moses for 6 years and he is my buddy,, but in the last month he has gone crazy,,,,,,, He is mating with everything that does not move,,,,, He will not stay on me,,,,, he flys all around the house and mates where he lands,,,, He has never acted like this before and I do not encourage mating at all,,, No boxes , no dark places for him to play,,,,,,,,, It is so bad that he has had to be put in his cage and not let out,,, He is not use to this as he has always had free run so to speak,,,,,,, What in the world do I do with him,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
I feel so sorry for him but he puts himself in danger by flying everywhere all the time,,,,,,,,,

You may want to consider clipping his wings, rearranging his cage, and have him sleep for at least 14 hours a night. If after a couple weeks and nothing changes you can up it to 16 hours of sleep. He may not like this, but it should help throw him off the idea to breed...

Even after trying to discourage the behavior; when a male lovebird is "in the mood", he'll find anything and everything to "have his way with". The little parrots have a lot of will and determination. Try a modified clip and if he continues the behavior on places you do not want, like on you, couch pillows, anything soft, remove him from the situation, try to distract him and offer some new toys; however he might become enamored with a toy and that will become his "mate", being fed by him ( they will regurgitate for their chosen one) and he very well use the toy as a "surrogate" mate if you get my drift
We have a chronic "humper" as he's known in our house and the best thing we've done for him is allowed him to have a soft perch in his cage and allowed him to continue his way. He has certain times of the year he does this more and we've just reserved ourselves to the fact that it's natural and we could cause unhealthy behaviors (like plucking) by trying to get him to stop. Hormones are just a fact of birdy life.

Not necessarily... But it can mean that they may not accept a mate if they have already 'chosen' one, even if it's inanimate...

We have a male "humper" as we call him, that takes care of both his mate and his inanimate object.

Well, i dont like it, why you dont give him what he need to ? he is a creature need to a wife, personally i think its cruel to prevent him from something nature he need to, give him a real wife, or give it to someone can give him a real wife.

Not everyone agrees with breeding, especially when it creates more birds in need of a home when many are in rescues and sanctuaries and many others are being rehomed. Just because a bird becomes hormonal DOES NOT mean you should get it a mate. It DOES NOT mean that that particular bird would make a good breeder at that. Just IMHO...
