She's in love..!

I have passed on the 'Bird Flu!'

As many of you know, my younger sister Cassie (_Cass_) is looking into birds. Well, what do you know, as yesterday I happened to stumble across an ad for a beautiful little lovie up for adoption! Check it out!

What do you guys think? Are they really dusty? What's a lovebird's temperment like?

I couldn't get into the link. Is it a male or female lovie? I personally think lovebirds are gorgeous, the colors and their antics are adorable but I would only get a male DNA sexed lovebird. The females tend to become pretty nasty when they reach sexual maturity and anything remotely resembling a nest box (happy hut, acrylic box etc) can be seen through the eyes of a female lovebird as a nest. Typically speaking, lovebirds and parrotlets are agressive little birds. One of the most painful bites I received was from a baby lovebird. He/she bite and held on and wouldn't let go. There are lots of people here that have them so hopefully they will tell you all the great things about them. I'm not sure they are a good bird for a child. I'm also finding out that neither are budgies. Hands down I would recommend a cockatiel for a child since a handfed baby tends to me sweet and docile.

Well I can't seem to get this link working, but here it is:

Basil

Lovebird

Size: Small
Age: Adult
Sex:
ID:

Notes: Basil is an adorable Lovebird with an even more adorable personality. Basil loves people, loves to be out and about out of the cage and is just so much fun to be around. This little bird will be a wonderful companion and would be a great first time bird. If you have room in your heart and home for this sweet bird, please contact us right away. Basil will be waiting...

Jetanlori-

We cannot get a bird that is too dusty. My dad is fine with Aree and Freddie, but Palmer (our old African Grey) was way to much for him too handle. Should we be getting another bird, it wouldn't a cockatiel. Thanks anyway for the suggestion.

Oh yeah you mentioned the dust and cockatiels are dusty. Well Basil sounds wonderful! I wonder how old he is? He looks like a seafoam green mutation. In the description he sounds like the perfect bird. I'd hurry up and take a look before he gts scooped up

Basil is adorable!! I think his name is cute too!

Mango is the only lovebird I have ever interacted with so all of this info is coming from my experiences with him.

Mango is a great bird. He's little, adorable, and has really silly antics! He LOVES toys (especially those with bells) and is very active. He loves to climb, swing, and hang from toys. I don't think he is loud but some people may consider his chirp "shrill." I don't think he is dusty at all but that may be because I live with a grey (although I never noticed any dust from him). Mango isn't very cuddly but he was not handfed so that may be why.

How cute. When I was at the vet's last summer, there was a man that was just leaving the office with a lovebird on his shoulder. Walked right outside with him, too. He was the cutest little thing!

Basil is a Dutch Blue Peachface. If indeed a male, great, a hen, no problem either as long as you don't let them get the best of you. Lovebirds are very intelligent and can outwit a good 50% or more of "non-bird" people. Master escape artists, acrobats and charmers. Even males become hormonal at times and any bird can bite. Lots of love and attention and Basil would be a wonderful additions to your family. Please make sure if Basil does join your family, to follow a strict quarantine, at least 45 days.

Well folks, Cassie got a Degu.

Basil is still available, and while Cassie has her own little treasure now, I think I might get him. We'll see what the parents have to say.
