Question Dad Lovebird taking more interest in brooding than ever before !!!

I have a pair of wonderful lovies - and in previous clutches the mom did most of the work.

They just laid their eggs, and the Dad is helping out more than ever before. The mom is still brooding and all, but she seems to be off playing more than in previous clutches... and the Dad is sitting on the eggs !

It's really cute ! What do you think the change is all about ?

It's funny (in a painful way !) that normally my lovebirds are extremely tame. But before I noticed the first egg I was just changing their water without much thought - standing infront of their cage apparently a little too close..., and the female seemlingly came out of no where and chomped my hand so bad I needed stitches!!! (It's okay, I didn't bleed on my lovies !)

I don't mind at all. I kind of respect those little guys for reminding me who is boss around here !!! I am just delighted they are going to have little ones !!!

We have male lovies that will join the hen on sitting on eggs, but his body is not at the correct temperature for incubating, so he's really not doing it. In warmer temperatures, hens will sometimes not sit as much on the eggs as the temperature they want them at stays longer without sitting. Some males just decide to become more involved than others. Recently we had a male that began feeding the chicks as well as the mother within a week of them hatching.
When my hens are on eggs (or getting ready to be) I honestly, try to leave them alone as much as possible. They are doing their job in protecting their clutch of eggs/chicks and can be quite the "pit vipers". If they are disturbed too much during the nesting process, they can (doesn't mean they will) abandon the eggs or not sit on them enough for proper incubation.
Good luck with your birds !!
