If you are sure you have an unrelated pair, then it's possible that the egg is fertile. An egg, from what I have read, can still be viable for about 20 days without incubation. Depending on whether or not the two mated, and whether or not the male is fertile, depends on whether or not the egg is fertile.... Just because the hen lays an egg doesn't mean you should let her breed and raise a family... unless you are willing to get all the necessary supplies to handraise chicks in case of an emergency (and have someone TEACH you how to handfeed!), or know someone who would take them if the need ever arose. Add to that, the parents should be on a healthy diet that includes fresh foods (such as veggies, some fruits, cooked eggs/beans, pasta, whole grain breads) in order to have healthier, stronger chicks.
