when i first brought peaches home she was afraid of toys too, but in about a month she started really playing with them. and now she loves bells! paper was the first and still is one of her very favorites! shred, shred, shred....last month i bought her the toy that you can put a roll of paper in and hang in the cage, the first couple of days she wouldn't go near it, now she loves it! she also likes to chew on the rope and wood toys.
i think most lovies are leary of anything new at first, just give it some time...btw he/she is beautiful..i love the butt picture!

Yeah? In a month your lovie was ok with the toys? It has only been 10 days so I guess, what's another 21? Thanks for that info. Now I can sit at peace and not think my bird is any extra scared of toys than most lovies are at this stage of life.

haha thank you VERY much! I am a very proud guardian of a gorgeous lovebird. I must admit that when I first decided to get a lovebird I had a TOTALLY different perspective on what a lovebird looks like and knew nothing of peach faced lovebirds. (I had seen masked only) So, what a complete and wonderful surprise to not only learn of Peach faced and their good looks but a Violet factor color mutation. I was immediately enamored with their look.

@ Royjoy,

Glad to hear no papercuts occur and I really like the idea of the unraveling of the paper. I am sure that if mine tried to play with it hanging from his cage at this age and clipped he would jump on and roll off falling hard to the bottom of the cage since it would surprise him. When he figures out it rolls when perched on he will be able to flap his wings and save the harder falls into softer but awkward landings.

Think I will go get one and start it on his 1' tall playpen crossbeam. Give him less to fall while he figures it out.

Thanks for the advice!

If you put the roll next to, or just above a perch, he will be able to reach it ok, none of my birds ever tried to land on the roll. these birds are smarter than we give them credit for. put all your toys within reach of a perch, they dont land on the toy, necesarily, to play with it, although they often do.
