Some breeders can tell the sex of eye ring lovebirds by looking at the shape of their eye; the eye itself, not the ring. A rounder eye supposedly indicates male and a more almond shape indicates female. This is only with eye ring lovebirds such as that Masked and Fischers.
Out of the three more common lovebird species, masks are the most timid and you'll probably want to let him/her settle in to the surrounding for a few days before attempting to handle too much. They can get stressed easily and it seems the immune system isn't as strong at that time and illness can quickly happen. If she's not tame, it may take quite a while to do so and they aren't as easy as the peachfaces or Fischers to tame from being "wild". Take it slow with the little one, lots of soft talking, slow moving and gain trust first. Good luck!
