Question Hen or Not?

I've talked about my Fishers love bird before and here is my question...

I want to get her a buddy to put in her cage with her. Now the pet store said that she is a girl, but when i posted about her spitting her food up on everything...someone said that males do that. is it possible that females do that too? i want to get her a mate. so i need to figure out if she is a female or male. i can't afford a blood test at the vets.

should i get a male and just hope that she is female?

A DNA test can cost only $20-$25 from Avian Biotech or another reliable blood test lab... The behavoir you are describing is most like a male, however it's not completely uncommon for females to do this too.

If you want a pet, keep only one until it is fully tame. You can then decide on getting a second... If you are interested in breeding you may want to go through a breeder instead, however know that if you plan on breeding that you may loose your bird as a pet, and that breeding takes a lot of time and commitment. You need to have various tools on hand (which can easily build up to $50 for basic, $300 or more for some of the higher quality products) and/or 1-2 avian vets AND breeders on hand in case of an emergency.

If you are looking for another bird just as a friend, sex should not matter (although there is not guarantee that two birds will ever get along).

Simply get the male, and let them live together, if you spend enough time watching them you will notice if they are a couple or same type, two males will not give a big intrest in building a nest, just get her the male and give her a nest and material for building nests i use plam leafs as a nest material and you have to leave it at the cage and the hen will take it and build ber nest with, anyway breeding lovebird isnt hard, and its funny too, you will learn alot of it and you gonna enjoy it, wish you good luck (with ALLAH well)
