I know my lovebird's gender and thus finally a name!!!
Hey all of you who have been following my early months with my new buddy!!
I am very proud to report that I finally know his gender and almost within 5 mins his name came to me too! (Hehe, yes obviously I am going to say he is a HE.) The crazy thing is although I always knew that figuring out his name would finally just click and feel right once I knew his gender...I never expected for that inspiration to lead to a new name, one that I had never considered during the first month of having my buddy at home. But, it happened anyway crazy enough and when I looked into what the name might mean I found some cool stories behind the name. So, here are the meanings behind the name before I tell you it and I would be extremely impressed if anyone figures it out from these: = Means to push, or pushing in Chinese - very befitting a lovebird's personality = recognized to mean "King" in Fijian, it is in the title of their ruler - my last name is King and also fits a lovebird personality = Is the actual name of an intelligent, iridescent feathered bird from New Zealand whose smarts is compared to a parrot - My bird's blue is violet/blue depending on light = A favorite football player of mine has this in his name - I initially got this idea when his name came up while going through a list of my all-time favorite names So, his name is going to be........................<drum roll> but please don't expect too much greatness from these dramatics.............. ![]() The Fijian King is called the "Tui Viti" and then I assume their name after that. So Tui Viti Kolipoki or something. Kolipoki is some Tongan slang just in case any Fijian speakers out there wonder what I am getting at. (Oh and feel free to correct me if I misunderstood what I read about Tui Viti.) Tui also means "to push" in a massage technique called "Tui Na An Mo" or "Push, Pull, Pressing, Stroking(or Circular kneading)" And the Tui bird of New Zealand is described here at Tui (bird - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). And Peter Tuipulotu who played Running Back at BYU back in the '90s. He played with Ty Detmer and I loved that 1990 BYU football team who beat the then ranked #1 Miami Hurricanes. It fits rather well for my bird, and closely sounds like Buddy a name we both got used to while this last month I continued to call him that. I am just SO GLAD he ended up being a HE because my instincts and those around me said he was a he and it would have been an adjustment of my thought processes to see him as a she. Thanks for reading all this and enjoying this with me!

I've seen NZ Tuis! Well I do live in New Zealand :) They're very pretty - so a good name overall. That Wiki article isn't working on my computer, but Tuis are black looking birds - but yes, they are shiny like oil spills in the right light, and they have a prominant big white puff right under their beaks on their chin. They're really cool, and have the most wonderful songs.
Your Lovebird Tui is cute, and yes we pronounce it Too-Ee exactly like you are pronouncing it. |
