1) How loud are they? not compared to a sun please, just if a love was all alone and u had never had a bird before.....how loud are they?

I have 6 lovebirds--all pets. Noise level varies--there are times they all get making noise and are almost as loud as my conures. Other times they are very quiet. They are most noisy in the morning after getting up and just before bedtime. (this is all the flock thing)

since i dont have a way to measure decibles (SP?) i'll have to compare to my sun. i'd say my luvs are half as loud as my sun, but some suns are louder than others, so i cant help at all. love outweighs noise, so i dont think you'll have a problem with it.

my lovebird has a shriller chirp than my caique, but i'd say their noise level is about the same. like mentioned above though, they're both pretty vocal when they first wake up and at nite before they go to bed. through the day, they're both pretty quiet.

I think I'd call what Petey does a 'beep' more that a 'chirp.' He can get pretty loud when he wants, but it's never unbearable. He gets the loudest when I put their birdie dvds on in their room, but I would say that's my fault, not theirs! Some days I think he's actually much louder than my GW, and on other days the keets overpower him. I still have to post pics of him....he's a cutie!

Here are some pics of my lovebird:

He's not ear piercingly loud, like a sun, but is pretty constant. Especially right about the time when you want to sit down and watch a movie, or sleep in, or, or, or....
I would think that if you're already having trouble with your sun making too much noise, you might not want to add ANY new bird. Are you thinking of re-homing your new sun?
Lovebirds are wonderful pets, but more often than not are not very cuddly, although some really are. They're very active, and can be loud.
Good luck with whatever you choose,
Jeni
