Training?

Has anyone successfully trained a lovebird to do anything? I am haveing a hard time getting my lovies to take any type of anything for a treat. I want to train them to do a few somple tricks on comand so I can show them at schools and libraries for kids. I am training a cockatiel and it is going fine but these lovies I am finding it impossible to do.

Re: Training?

About the only way you'll be able to work with a lovebird is if it's alone in it's own cage away from other birds but even then, it's unlikely that you'll have the success you want. Lovebirds are usually at their best when they're with another lovebird but that has nothing to do with training. Some people have success but they're in the minority. They're usually shown at schools and bird clubs but that has to do with the different colors, mutations and hybrids that lovebirds are famous for.

Re: Training?

It is pretty hard to get them to step up. I have been working on it for months. So I know what you are talking about.
