Update on Baby Lovebird

We have named him Chippers. He is just an adorable doll baby!

this was the main thread:

Here is a photo of him now. We just love him! He is about the best lovebird I have ever met.

Oh, Chipper is darling! I'm tempted to fly to AK and fid-nap him! The cuteness is slaying me over here...

I'm glad that he's doing so well.

He is a sweetie, Dayna. Do you breed them, or is he a baby you adopted? I have 4 pairs of Lovies in a small outdoor aviary, with nesting boxes; I see them breeding a lot but the eggs are always infertile....I didn't know if that was too many pairs in one large cage, but they all get together well.

I breed them. They each have their own cage though..

Mine have the following things. I have a very high fertile hatch rate:

Warm room (like 80 degrees)
Fresh veggies daily
Lights on timers
Bathing dish daily
Lots of nesting material in the box and outside of box (sometimes they throw out all the stuff I put in and they add it all themselves)

Cuttlebone
Seed/Zupreem pellet mix

Mood music (jk)

Mine are outside on the patio, they aren't exposed to the elements and are getting natural light. They get fresh veggies (not every single day though) and ZuPreem pellets, and millet sticks. I have a big shallow bowl I put in there every couple days, they love to swim and bathe in it. I can't leave it in the cage for any length of time though...they end up making "poop soup" in it.
I use dry grass and small sticks for nesting, I put it in the bottom of the cage and they clean it up. I'm gonna try seperate cages though, maybe thats why they aren't producing.
Or maybe I should pick something up for the girls from Victoria's Secret?

Ha I just caught that!

I seem to recall reading that peachies don't breed well in colony situations... is that true? Maybe the seperate cages for each pair would work out better?

Keep us posted!
