Sick Lovie

Sorry need some advise. One of my lovebird has fallen very sick today I already took her to a vet at AMK Veterinary Surgery. The vet told me my lovie had a virus and is most likely not going to survive and was given antibiotics and force fed some food.

Now the lovie is in a box and I'm observing it vomiting out what it had been forced fed with. Its trying to eat millet seeds and pellets but don't seem to be having the strength to bite. Its poo is quite watery but can still see it is black and white.

The lovebird was still ok yesterday I even hand fed ,play with it. The only odd thing was it had jumped out of its nest box at around 2am and started calling. I went to check and found nothing odd and the lovie then fell asleep on the perch with its mate. Today at 8am I woke up to see the poor thing hiding in the corner of its nest box and only its mate coming out to greet me.

I really wish to seek all the help and advise I can get with regards to saving the lovie. Thanks.

If the vet said it was a virus (without testing?) yet gave you antibiotics, I would run, not walk, as far away from that hospital as I could. Antibiotics help bacterial infections, never viruses. You would have gotten better advice from a Walmart employee.

Is your sick bird the female? If so, maybe she's getting ready to lay an egg.

Keep her warm, keep her food on the floor of the brooder, and get her to a vet who specializes in birds. If you tell us where you live, we can recommend some avian vets.

Oh my, so sad that your lovie is not well.
I do hope he gets better soon.
