Smile Hope to anyone dealing with Beak and Feather Disease

Hi Guys! I just wanted to post about my lovie and maybe give someone else with the same problems a little hope because I know how tough having a sick bird can be. My lovie's name is Pete and he'll be turning 3 soon. About a year and a half ago Petes mate died and Pete was diagnosed with beak and feather disease. PBFD is a scary disease and hard to deal with because it is a death sentence for most birds. When the vet diagnosed Pete with PBFD he told me that Pete had no more than 6 months to live. Well, that was over a year ago and Pete is healthy as ever, despite the complete lack of feathers. So, I just wanted to say that there is hope for a bird with PBFD and anyone who is dealing with this shouldn't get too down. The only bad part about Pete's disease is having to explain to all my friends why my bird looks like a chicken nugget.

Poor little nekkid chicken!!!! Sadly, I've been hearing about a few cases of lovebirds bought from Petstores contacting PBFD... (usually before being bought) some birds catch it and are carriers but may never show signs, others it may kill instantly, and yet others who are around birds with PBFD don't eve get it.... it's a terrible illness! And birds just aren't expected to live long once they show signs of having it.

Such a sweet chicken... I'm sorry that Pete has PBFD but I'm glad that you are giving him a loving home.

I wish you the best with him :)

Monica -- I've heard of quite a few recent cases of lovies being diagnosed w/ PBFD; quite a few in NJ alone :( It's very disheartening.
