I've had my lovebird Piper for 3 years now.
Although I got her when she was still a baby (once weaned of course), I was not her first owner. She was hatched in a clutch of 3 birds. Two of these birds had splayed legs, Piper being one of them. In any case, because of her handicap she was not to be sold but given away. So a family took her in. Not quite sure what they did, but they "lost" her in their house and found her nearly dead a couple days later. They brought her back to the breeder who didn't think she could save her..but she did. The breeder happens to be a friend of my mother's. Anyways, my mom was going to visit her one day and I tagged along, wanting to see the babies (she still had Piper and the one who didn't have a splayed leg). The moment Piper saw me, she jumped on my shoulder and hid under my hair behind me ear and softly chirped there. I think it's safe to say she chose me...I have her since that day.
Now she does not know she has the splayed let..nothing stops this bird.
Back in the baby days, sitting next to one of my mom's lovebirds. Piper is on the left.
Enjoying the last rays of sun of the day.
Gratuitous butt shot.
