An update on Spike and Ducky

Well, Ducky is missing a good portion of two of his toes but the swelling is gone and it seems to have healed fine. There was string wrapped on his foot. Poor baby must have been picking on it that whole night (with help from Spike). I went through his cage and it turns out there was a tag in his little felt hut thing (Happy Hut). It had shredded and a tenny little thread cut into him. I tore the tag out and made sure nothing else had that kind of thread. He looks much better now, but he can't use that foot anymore. I guess he's disabled now, but you can't really tell because even with his wings clipped he gets around fine. (Don't worry, his wings won't be clipped ever again).

Interestingly enough, he's been braver since this incident. Before it was always Spike who took charge, and now Ducky is leading him around. A couple of days ago, they came out of the cage on their own FOR THE FIRST TIME! I was so excited! They still don't like me much, but they like to play with my hair if I set them on my shoulder. Their latest adventure involved them landing in the bunny cage, and meeting Lola for the first time. Lola has decided we are all crazy :) Anyway, now they yell at me when they want out.

So all in all, they are doing really good and I want to thank you guys for all your advice!
