Question These Guys Never Sleep!

Maybe you guys can help me out...

My birds NEVER sleep! Okay we'll maybe it's not fair to say never.. but its 1:30 am and they're out there squawkin and flying! I really dont understand, I cover their cage around 9 or 10 pm, and turn most lights out. Schmee (lovebird) and Professor (parakeet) live together in a very large cage. (lots of room for flying, about 5ft high, 3 ft wide) They get along great and have no aggression issues. They do eventually fall asleep, but sometimes not until 3:30 am! They nap alot during the day. I think i'm doing everything right. I uncover them in the morning usually around 7. Also, i thought the darkness calmed birds down? Not in my case! These party animals never want to go to bed.

Anyone else dealing with night owls? I just wanna get some sleep!

I have no solution .... Whenever Lola even sees the blanket that I put over her cage, she gets quiet and calms down. How long has this been going on?

My peachfaced are light sleepers, I think. When I go to put the towel on their cage at night, they squawk happily like it's a great, fun thing. In the middle of the night they are generally quiet although they will start to chirp or talk to me, if they hear me move about or even sigh or groan or anything. Thankfully, they don't react too much to my husband's snoring or else, they'd never shut up.
Try and cover them up earlier....I've really tried to give mine a good 12 hours sleep recently and I have noticed they are much nicer birds....I guess I get crabby when I don't sleep enough either. Maybe they'll be quieter if they go to bed earlier....? Worth a try, I guess....Make sure, too, that the room is fully dark ...they aren't likely to fly about if they can't see anything. But if they wanna talk....well, not much can be done about that! There is lots to talk about in a bird's world!

Yea I can start to cover them up earlier. Since its getting dark outside around 5, they should adjust. I guess it just seems like they know no difference between light and dark! It's 12:30 am, complete darkness in the living room, and theyre playing with their toys and chirping! Crazy little buggers... at least they're happy i spose.

Are you sure they get along? I would put them in seperate cages for a night and see if that makes a difference. Also, physical activity such as flying or climbing around on a playgym will help to tucker them out and help them sleep better.
