I have two lovebirds, male and female (they've been DNA sexed)- who are both almost two years old. I have seen the male regurgitate his food and feed the female before, but he has been doing it a lot lately...it seems once a day.
I am wondering if this is just him being affectionate, or is it a sign of mating? I haven't seen him do this when they fly around, but when they're in the cage together, I see him regurgitate his food. I don't have any nesting materials in their cage, and so far my female bird hasn't laid any eggs. If this is a mating ritual, would it be best to provide a nesting box and materials? |

It may just be a sign that they are bonding more closely.
Do you want to allow your birds to breed? If they are pets, are you willing to potentially loose them as pets? Can you handraise chicks if need be? Have handfeeding experience?
