I have a new baby lovebird. he's about 6 weeks old and fully flying around my apt. I am considering getting his wings clipped. do you think it is too soon?

I would suggest waiting until the lovebird is at least 4-6 months old before clipping, if not older. This will help build up confidence as well as muscle and health. However, it may be difficult handling a young lovebird for so long with filght if the bird has no interest in flying to you.

I think wing clipping is a personal preference - some do it, some don't. You need to think about what you're wanting... are you concerned that your baby could get injured by flying into a mirror/window or behind the fridge, etc? Or do you just not want your bird to be able to fly all over the place?

I've always clipped my birds wings after they've learned to fly. I'd estimate I clipped their wings when they'd reach either 3 or 4 months. I clip them so that they can still fly around, but not fly UP to somewhere where I can't reach them. That way, they're still getting exercise and building strength but not able to fly behind my fridge.
